I would retcon gems as ayylmaos and make them an ancient order of humans that have infused with mystical gems, and the CG are the protectors of the earth from other magical dangers. Rose died giving birth to Steven for something other than LOL I cant do that, and Steven has his own gem not Rose's.
The Earth in SU would be nothing like ours, it would be a completely constructed world with all sorts of cool magical places and shit, like say 8 different continents for example.
The human characters get scrapped.
