>>87511685As soon as DC finds some writers with nuts.
>>87511870Well, Prez is originally from his own self-titled series in the 70's by Captain America co-creator Joe Simon. But yes, he was also in Sandman.
>>87512407Throughout Multiversity, there's this nihilistic anti-fiction undercurrent, epitomized by the series' villains. Not just the Empty Hand and his Gentry, but also Nightshade's father and the Earth-5 Doctor Sivana and even Overman's wife. The idea being suggested is that fiction is somehow bad for you, because it ages you. You waste your precious hours on this Earth reading about imaginary people who will stay young and vibrant forever, while you keep growing older. In that sense, it's almost like fictional characters are some kind of youth-vampire, draining your life away every time you indulge yourself in their stories.
Even Mister Stubbs, one of the good guys, allows himself to fall into this faulty way of thinking. "Aren't we getting too old for comic books," he asks, foreshadowing the message of the Gentry.
The heroes of the story, the OJI, represent the opposite view of fiction. The idea that reading about fictional characters makes us better people, because heroes can inspire us to emulate them, and villains can serve as cautionary examples that teach us how to avoid becoming like them. Every hero is fictional on every world except his own, but by reading about each other's adventures, they make each other better and also make us better. And we make all of them better by creating new stories about them and supporting them with our comic-buyng dollars (unless you're one of those filthy pirates, from a pirate universe).
