Glad I'm not the only one who's only interested in Luke and Kylo out of TFA. Also not looking forward to Rogue One either. That film feels like unnecessary milking even more than the ST does. Regardless of how anyone feels about Kylo Ren or TFA in general, with the limited information that we know about the character, there is no way to even attempt to do this kind of analysis. VADER is a character who has stretched across 6 movies, Kylo has been in one movie and his history was purposely left unknown so as to be explored in later movies.

They slaughtered the Rebel crew on-board the Tantive IV, Tuskens and numerous Ewoks and Rebels. They didn't kill the main characters because of the plot.

This didn't happen. Ewoks scored a few kills against AT-STs and Stormtroopers but you forget they pushed the Ewoks back into the forest and were slaughtering them until Chewie hijacked an ATST and fought to the undefended bunker. It was made clear in the film the Ewoks and Rebels were losing badly.

As far as they were concerned, there were no defences hence why they went straight to the box. It doesn't help that the Separatist were very prepared and had the place well protected without the Republic knowing.

There was no other way. As far as we know there the whole area was surrounded by forts and caves waiting for them that's why Anakin and Mundi went head on. I doubt the Geonosians would leave an opening. Also, time was the one thing they did not have.

Kylo's already shown about as much nuance as Vader's character. That doesn't necessarily make him better though.

They didn't all fly into the killzone. They tried to go around it and all crashed upon encountering resistance much heavier than anticipated. Iirc, no one actually safely made it to the assigned landing zone. Obi-Wan crashed closest to it but was in no shape to support the defense effort.

If this is true I actually have hope for the new franchise because it has the potential to be very alien and mystical. I did like TFA but they introduced new things too slowly and I hope episode 8 doesn't have to cover for this by cramming in too much information.

I am starting this post off by stating that AOTC ice my favorite prequel film.

The Clone battle at the finale is stylistic, not realistic.

It makes zero sense to just send a bunch of Clones at a bunch of droids. Neither side had any hope of their infantry causing any substantial loss to their enemies.

It looks cool as shit, but in now way makes any sense. Both sides have huge walking tanks and the Republic has air superiority.

The Confederacy is on the defensive for the entire battle. You would never deploy troops in any offensive maneuver at that scale when you're just trying to escape.

On that note, what was the Confederacy trying to gain in the battle? What was the Republic trying to gain? All that anyone on the Republic side stated as any goal was to capture Dooku, but no one even looks for him. Anakin and Obi-Wan just stumbled on him by chance.

The Confederacy was trying to retreat because they were caught completely off-guard. That's why the Republic didn't get slaughtered in that battle. You see dozens of Core ships taking off because they carried the leaders of the Confederacy and housed entire armies of Battle Droids freshly created. Long story short it was a reversal of the Battle of Hoth. Republic objectives were to stop the Core ships and take out their leadership and shut down the factories. The original objective was to rescue the Jedi trapped on Geonosis but the situation changed.

I hate this argument. They aren't cheap. Droids cost money to build and maintain.

Clones cost money to feed.

Both sides faced massive monetary losses by their choice of battle tactics. And if you think monetary loss isn't considered when plotting a battle, you haven't been watching the war in the Middle East close enough

You're not going to capture anybody by sending a bunch of soldiers to their death by starting an offensive in an area with zero cover.

The CIS have it easy. The battle droids need little maintenance and an energy source to function meanwhile the Republic has to provide facilities to the clone troopers to satisfy basic human needs. Sleep, food, medicine, etc.

No, it doesn't make sense. Using tanks and giant droid walkers makes sense because they're going to make more damage for the opposing forces. Sending in infantry is just wasting supplies and lives.

If the CIS releases infantry and the Republic doesn't, they're just mowed down by gunships. The droids have no cover and the droid walkers clearly weren't doing shit against the gunships.

If the Republic releases their infantry and
CIS doesn't then the clone troopers do what? Storm the core ships and hope to overtake a giant starship with a hundred of so troopers? Nah.

Both sides faces unnecessary losses by releasing infantry. It makes no sense.

Looks fucking cool, but makes no sense.

According to the wook, the Hailfire tanks were produced by Haor Chall Engineering, and the ones we see on Geonosis in AoTC belonged to the Banking Clan.

Deleted scenes. It's a major plot point but it was cut for unknown reasons. You see the remnants in the final film which makes some scenes bizarre.

Ultimate Star Wars is canon, although with a few small mistakes.

It only takes information from 1-6, TCW, Rebels, Commander, Son of Dathomir, A New Dawn, and Tarkin.

However there are a few little "facts" sprinkled in NOT from those things, which are quickly being outed as non-canon. Seems like they took some liberties trying to inflate some of the pages a bit, not realizing how quick Canon would be to contradict.

For example, the Shuttle Tyderium has some small trivia about how the Rebels obtained it. Who would have guessed that a year later, they actually make an original Canon story about that very thing?

The gif that gets spammed around loops to make it look much worse than it is, taken from a scene in which the choreography is fast, intense, lengthy, and the duelists are constantly connecting their hits.

Of course staring at a loop for 10 seconds will make it look silly. Looks fine in the movie.

Like large scale battles? Not many. But technically we had skirmish in the season 1 finale and Vader took out an entire squadron and flagship by himself.

It's goofy because it's very bland. They clumsily swing their swords instead of moving and positioning. They're training, not fighting. A real sword fight would have them all over the damn place trying to lunge, trying to riposte, trying to trick them or use their environment.

Oh, and the brief 3 seconds of them stopping the fight entirely, spinning their swords around themselves as if they were at a Rave and they were enjoying their glowsticks too much, and THEN resuming the fight.

THAT is why it looks goofy. Is that explained enough?

Real talk, I think even if you strip away all of Plinkett's autistic nitpicks, which are like half his critiques, the half that you're left with is really damning.

The prequels just aren't well-constructed movies. They fail basic tenets of cinema. Whether it's TPM not having a main character or AOTC poorly homaging ESB, they're rife with problems and issues that make them not good.

I mean Plinkett never even says a word about Jar-Jar. He's not exactly picking the low-hanging fruit.

The TPM and AOTC videos didn't really bring up anything I hadn't already noticed and complained about for years, but ROTS really opened my eyes as to how lazy George Lucas was on set.

Everyone praises him as a visual director and film maker, but he gets ideas of what shit should look like from conceptual artists and then shows it to the digital artists.

He supplies little input. If you read the making of books you see that he gives the conceptual artists very little input and just says things like, "Make it cool" "Give me something neat."

And as far acting goes, Jesus. Flat performances all around except Ewan and Ian, and only because they really start hamming it up by Episode III.

It's usually because they do nothing to actually flesh her out. They give tidbits on her history and give her some fight scenes but there's no actual development of her character. Well, if you haven't seen anything to do with Rogue One then you're obviously not going to have any interest with it.
I for one welcome it because Rebels only focuses on building the Rebellion and we will never see full scale battles because of their budget.
We will probably never get a film just focused on bounty hunters doing missions so this is the closest thing we're going to get.

The only thing of this I agree on is that it's nice to have a passionate villain after Vader's relentlessness and the wasted opportunity that was Maul. Kylo might not be as powerful on screen as Vader, but his potential makes him an imminent danger and that's nice to have because, unlike Vader, he can pretty much do anything and go anywhere from this point on: Vader had already done all that groundwork and had established his power, he was a monolith to Kylo's churning volcano that has yet to erupt.

I don't know, in the first ten minutes he stops a blaster bolt that was aimed at the back of his head, holds it in mid air while carrying on a conversation, then lets it fly almost as an afterthought. Maybe Vader was that strong and the tech just wasn't there to show it, but its a good indicator of what Kylo is like: crazy strong with the Force, but perhaps not brilliant with a saber. Which makes Rey his ideal foil by being the opposite of that

I more referred to as being as powerful a presence. Vader was clearly the Man as early as ANH, when he steps onto Leia's captured ship, looming over the dead and the stormtroopers around him and just being the dominant presence. You didn't get the impression that there was anyone else in charge, just him, and he wasn't diminished when later revealed to be a subordinate to Tarkin or the Emperor. Kylo doesn't give off that level of command presence, he just hasn't grown into it, as his bantering with Hux showed, but he's not the same kind of man Vader is either. He may never be that kind of presence, is all.

Fett's been worshipped since ESB first hit theaters. Everyone wanted to know more about the dude in the badass armor that got addressed directly by Vader and actually argued with him and didn't get choked out. The EU had a field day building lore around Fett with just a couple of canon buzzwords about him from ESB time that were basically descriptive of only him, like that he was an infamous bounty hunter known for wearing "Mandalorian" armor. It blew up into an entire culture of guys in this armor who were subdivided into contentious clans of warriors with their own sense of honor that hunted Jedi for the challenge of it, and that their armor developed from these hunts as adaptations to combat the Jedi's Force abilities, making them about the only normies capable of giving a Jedi a fight one-on-one and stand a chance, which appealed to the Joe Blows that didn't like mystical powers and those who use them in their sci-fi headcanons. After the EU purge, some folks have never accepted that all their lore is basically fanfiction now.

When The Empire Strikes Back was in pre-production, there was an idea for squad of "supercommandos" from the Mandalore system armed with weapons built into their white suits. The costume prototype was repainted for Boba Fett, and the idea of the Mandalorians was paid lip service to in The Empire Strikes Back novelization by Donald F. Glut. We know the Rebellion will be even stronger since we're getting closer to the Episode One... so if not the Rebels then maybe just on of the main cast. They can easily kill off Zeb, Sabine and Hera, make Thrawn awesome and carry on with the series. I think it's too early for Kanan to die so these are our options.

I think Lucas also presented the surface of Nal Hutta from sketches he made himself. Another cool anecdote. I'm sure he had a lot of ideas and imagery he presented, it's all about finding the right person to refine them. That's why I'm interested in knowing about his contributions to the Disney-era SW. I know he developed the look of Kessel in Rebels, for instance.

/tv/ often takes a lot of BTS stuff out of context to shitpost.

They sort of struck gold with the Phantom Menace BTS (you know the one) because a lot of that documentary was all about the worry and pressure of reviving Star Wars, so there was a lot of worried faces and remarks.

But after they bled that documentary dry by memeing it to oblivion, they moved on to other BTS stuff. For example, one of the common ones is the clip of Obi-Wan hugging Dex, an easy go-to of "LOOK, LUCAS ONLY USES CGI NOW", while ironically ignoring that McGregor is standing in one of the many practical sets in the trilogy.

Then they find little clips like this, again trying to take them out of context. "Look, Lucas totally just RUINED this guys model, what a HACK!"

TL;DR - People are so caught up on this charade of Lucas being a bad filmmaker that they resort to lies and slander and out-of-context clips to try and belittle him.

Lucas was practically villainized by very bitter people, but I truly believe that the vast majority of Star Wars fans don't actually hate him, and still have great respect for him.

And I hope he knows that, too.
