They're going to make her come out as lesbian or bi one day. Mark my words. They're trying to make her their big hero and diversify their characters. They did it with Iceman when it made no sense, and there's at least some plausible shit you could use as example for Carl Danvers. What significant bf has she really had apart from Mar-Vell and now Rhodey? Also keep in mind they basically retconned Mar-Vell largely out of her origin and seem to be changing her origin drastically in her movie so as not to be a GL rip-off. Also consider her relationship with Spider Woman. This is more coming from how they've chosen to write her post becoming Captain Marvel too. I would have never come to this conclusion pre-Siege.
