>>87229791>But here's why I think it might work: svtfoe is really sappy and gives off the vibe that it could work out.No, no, no, irrelevant. It does not matter how "sappy" a story is, there is a structure there that, if you deliberately work against it (and it' really rare for a writer to work against their own story unconsciously), will only make for a contrived story.
"om for some reason genuinely shares interests with him (the cheesy boyband) and while Marco still doesn't completely trust Tom it's likely that he is open to be friends at least. In Friendenemies it really looked like he was willing to change and hold back his nature because he's so lonely."
Those are excellent observations. And they all point towards there being more conflict between Tom and Marco in the future and more bonding.
But Tom is not on equal footing with Marco. Their part in the story is very different. Tom is a aide-antagonist, Marco is a main protagonist (one of the two). These two exist on separate narrative levels.
Although interestingly, Janna is shy of like, couple of episodes of intense character development of actually making this a trio of main Protagonists.
"Now let's say that one day they let Star tag along and once she finds out how adorable they are together, I bet her kooky heart might have a tiny aneurysm. After that she might realize that Tom really did change and it aaall becoems full circle."
And that would lead to Tom's character changing his role from a side-antagonist to a side-protagonist. He would still be a looong way from being able to become a part of the main Protagonists group.
And if he were to skip that process, it would feel contrived.
I mean technically, any ship is POSSIBLE and it's possible to do any ship right. But that requires specific build-up. We did not have that build-up for Tom. We might!
But I wouldn't bet on it.
