This series is a good example of a "meh" premise with HORRIBLE design, voice acting and narrative.
After the explosion of the meme I tried to watch the first episode. I had issues finishing it, but I did. It was a horrible experience. I don't think this is even enjoyable in a sense of "it's so bad it's good".
At least "drawn together" was spot on in some jokes and was absolutely enjoyable with the right amount of weed.

Apparently this guy and the black guy were designed after workers. Black guy was a story board artist while this dude worked as a laborer in the MYX/Nutshack warehouse.

The characters stay the same, but we make it watchable...
Obviously it'd take a few teams of people for storyboarding, writing, animating, voicing and all the work that needs to go on-- but I think it'd be doable with the right people.

Ok, in the name of Nutshack Redemption 2017, let's analyse the first episode.
The episode starts out with Tito telling Phil how his cousin Jack is coming over to the US from Makati. We then see Jack uncomfortable in the plane with Horat in his bag, who then causes a commotion on the plane. Horat flings shit and Manu the Hawaiian beats Jack to a pulp. At the airport we have airport security apologising to Jack for assuming he’s a terrorist but assuring him there was nothing out of the ordinary about the cavity search (lies, some gay flake tells him thanks for the good time). Manu apologizes for before, Jack takes a taxi to Tito’s apartment and asks if his uncle Richard lives there and Dick slams the door in his face only to reveal he was right and welcome him in. Phil and Jack meet, Phil teaches Jack the delicate fist-bump system of Daily City. The landlord Dwanye come in and it’s made clear that they hide the fact that Jack is moving in and all three escape when he’s not looking. Jack and Phil then ride down the city as Phil introduces Jack to various characters like Becky, Sanjee, Cherry, Ed and Angel. We got back to the apartment where Tito meets Horat and they get drunk. Dwayne comes back and Horat fights him out the window. Phil and Jack stop by the bar Lit where they meet Willie and Chita who Jack is immediately smitten with. They take one shot and possibly get high offscreen and retunr home buzzed. We learn Jack made Horat and is optimistic about his new life. Phil also seems pretty ok with Jack as he talks to his boner.

See, I like how they made an effort to make pop culture references more efficiently than Family Guy or Robot Chicken by doing two in one: the obvious MK/Street Fighter reference paired with Star Wars. This is a technique that, to my knowledge, is completely unique to Nutshack as a regularly occurring reference style as opposed to other shows of its kind that only do this as a meta-joke about how they already make single, one-at-a-time references.

Even though the show was made in the late 00s, it oddly feels more connected to the early 00s, as if they made it around 2002 then shelved it for five years.

Ramon Lopez, the creator of the Nutshack, knows about all the memes and popularity of his show and seems very happy with them.

I wonder if he knows his show is actually terrible. Some makers of crap, like Tommy Wiseau and Uwe Boll, try to defend their work and think it's actually good. Others, like Hal Warren (director of Manos: the hands of fate), knew they were doing a bad job.

I know in general with /co/ projects they pick up speed and interest in the beginning but die down in about a month.
I also know there have been threads that want to make a cartoon instead of the average comic that most projects create.

Yes, the time would defiantly be shortened, because as one anon mentioned, they have a lot of nothing going on in some scenes in the original.
Animation-wise, it would be a single scene with a voice clip and storyboard provided to any brave animator, but they would have to stay on model to the final designs. They could animate it in any program that gets the job done.

Ok, let’s review.
Art is always welcome. The first step is writing. They have some good jokes but not pulled off well in the original, so a major issue would be pacing and execution. Once we have a scene written and revised, then we storyboard it with dummy voicing if necessary. The voices should come after we finish an entire episode script and the actors need to be committed enough for all possible episodes. They also need directing. An issue with the original Nutshack was the voice direction. Any voice actors should be expected to repeat a line at least 20 times.

The character sheets would have to include front, back, 2 profiles, 2 ¾ angles and at least 15 different expressions to show how their face warps. To animate this, any would be animator would get the storyboard and voice files for any given scene.They could use any program they like but multiple people can animate the same scene at once. This gives more options as we can composite all the best parts of the submissions.
Anything after that, we can probably just wait and see.

Alright, I'm halfway done writing the script for the first episode. Lots of dumb jokes I had to take out, but I still think I'm making this worthwhile.

You know what would be great? If each character has a minor reoccurring theme and tone in episodes that cater to them.

Obviously keep Phil's adventures grounded and more about the people around him since he's familiar with everything.

But Jack's adventures are where things can get creative. Since he's suppose to be smart we can have him inventing outlandish things and crazy shit. This would also serve as a response to Jack trying to fit into his new environment.

Thinking about it, I enjoy these ideas, but I also want to make use of the episodes from the original.

Okay, so what to do with Harot? Do we keep him the same as he was or do we tweak him a little bit?

I have an idea to keep him as the comedy relief, but to amp up his power level a bit and include cool ass weapons and gadgets and Jack forever upgrading him.

The joke here will be that he never pulls through when there's a call to action for him to be badass. He somehow always overestimates himself and makes the situation worse, even though he has the potential to be badass and save the Nuts anytime something awful happens.

Ep 2 was about Phil, Jack, Chita and Horat going on a road trip to ski in Lake Touhou.
Ep 3 was about Jack getting a jeepney and racing Jerome and Jamar
Ep 4 was about everyone getting plastic surgery, Chita disapproving
Ep 5 was about Phil getting bad luck from a duck egg
These are pretty underwhelming, let’s throw out ideas to improve it. And add some continuity.
Example: >Ep 2 more focus on the road trip, maybe they never make it to ski and turn back calling the trip a bust when the car crashes into Cherry’s porno in the woods.

I did some shitty editing in MSPaint. The basic idea is "squintier". Phil is the squintiest character in the show. I probably have not gone far enough, actually, but Phil definitely shouldn't be a round eyed gaijin pig. Basically the bottoms of his eyes should never round down.

Also, I'd toy around with making his nose wider and rounder. I'd have done that too but I've already beefed it enough with this image.
