First Order is just the empire with a different name for all intents.

This was the biggest problem with Ep7. It played everything too closely to the OT to the point where they're almost the exact same movie.

The knew they only had to be better than the PT and that's all the strive to be with throwing out as much iconic classic imagery as possible

mark my words we'll be going back to Hoth and Dagoba before this over

Despite the snow, the surface of Starkiller had little to do with Hoth. The reason we bitch about Jakku and Takodana isn't just because they LOOK just like Tatooine and Yavin IV, but they serve the exact same purpose, too.

I like the idea people had thrown around of the Republic now being the big power and the First Order being the scrappy, underfunded rebels, except they're a lot more brutal than the rebels were, intentionally targeting civilians and really espousing the "rule through fear" mentality without needing a new Death Star. They'd basically be analogous to ISIS, which would make them a lot more relevant than making them yet another Nazi reference.

The idea of the graveyard of ships left over from the GCW on Jakku (nothing else about Jakku, though. Especially now that it's a Super Special Sith site now)

I get that the empire would still have loyalists and taken down Palpy shouldn't send a stop fighting signal to everyone, I just wish they took more risks with the plot, characters and setting.

The SW universe is a big and varied setting, there's no good reason we have to be beholden to OT nostalgia beyond the executives wanting to play it safe. The movie is to safe.

Funny enough, they were still topical in 1977. Yeah, that's kind of the thing. Any one of these things would've been acceptable on its own. Just like how everything that was resolved in ROTJ ends up going to shit again- it would be fine if one or two things ended up not turning out so great, but TFA reverses everything about ROTJ's ending. Even something like ending the Sith gets subverted because we have Sith-like villains and the movie never bothers to show us what (if anything) actually makes them different from the Sith, aside from how many there are.

That's not true. Although I would argue that TPM was a retread of ROTJ elements, AOTC is pretty damn original. Never before had their been a detective subplot, or any behind the scenes political meddling. It's pretty original.

1. Hosnian Prime (For those few seconds we got to see it)

Even in TCW she really didn't do a whole lot, the Kanan comic really is her best characterization, which is sad because she's only in like three issues, total.

Nah.
I think you got that wrong.
The point made in the film was that Kylo felt the 'pull to the light' or something. For some reason he could not give into the dark side completely, which is what he struggled with.

Sadly we don't know why anybody would want that, which made the whole character arc seem trivial, but it ends with him literally severing his last connection to his old life and the light.
He damned himself with that. Intentionally.

Kylo was in a way one of the best things about TFA. He was a novel take on a darksider.
Again though, sadly we don't know his motivations so that felt kind of hollow.

How do you feel about Lucasfilm still using Maul? I like how TCW handled him, the Son of Dathomir comic was good too. They went too far for me having him still be alive in Rebels.

He should've been killed by Ahsoka, Rex or the Mandalorians during the Siege of Mandalore (The clone wars finale) but because the show was cancelled I think they just left him alive to use in Rebels.

He's overstayed his welcome now for sure and as much as I enjoy him in Rebels it doesn't feel right him just being there this late in the saga, at least freeze him in carbonite or something.

If I could exchange his live for Ventress' I would. It made more sense for her to survive the clone war and go into hiding like she did in legends.

I felt they killed her off pointlessly when they could have just let her be a bounty hunter in hiding and killed maul because he is too powerful to be around after TCW.

Why are Sith allowed to love but Jedi are not? Doesn't make sense to me, love is what brought Anakin back from the Dark. TFA also kept this concept by having Ren dissociate himself with his loved ones to be like Vader. I honestly feel like George made this mentality up because he was too lazy to write a real romance for the prequels, so he went with the easy forbidden love route.

It's about attachments, and it definitely ties in with ROTJ. The Jedi felt attachments led to the dark side, which Anakin became an example of when his refusal to let go ended up wrecking everything. That's why they felt he was irredeemable, and were worried Luke's growing attachment to his father would become an issue. Luke is the one that proves them wrong and shows that love and attachment aren't necessarily a bad thing.

I think the Sith consider love a distraction. Jedi don't forbid love so much as marriage and attachment, and it's due to misunderstanding of attachment. It's important to remember that the Jedi Order was meant to be wrong about a lot of stuff, and their narrow-minded view of love and attachment was one of them.

Would it be in tune with you spiritually? Certainly not, but it would work as a component of your weapon. The ritual is the best way to find and tune them, but it has to be far from the only way to do so.

I wish Anakin's descent into being a lawful evil champion of the Empire was handled better.

But that would require the past 5-6ish years leading up to the formation of the Empire to be aggressively rewritten.

Like the remnants of the Trade Federation and the Separatists are actually the first two major factions in the Rebel Alliance, but they're only ever shown from the perspective of the proto-Empire, who hate them. Which makes Anakin's and the Republic's senators and generals who are passionately against any attempts at sedition even more stronger.

Maybe in Episode 2, Anakin begins purging the most corrupt and incompetent politicians/elements of the Empire, while going against ultra-isolationist/pacifist Jedi by participating in the Clone Wars like Revan's or the Exile's defiance of the Jedi Council.

When the Jedi Purge happens, it targets wildcards like Yoda or potentially disruptive threats like Windu, while sparing force sensitives who are loyal to the Empire. And instead of purging the younglings, Anakin instead teaches them to be loyal to the Empire and it's pro-order/authoritarian ideals, rather than the Jedi Order. (Explaining away why Sith, Inquisitors, and other force sensitives exist by the events of Episode 4 onwards, if off screen) When this is found out-----this is the treason that causes the rest of the old order to hunt him.

Tarkin's, Palpatine's, and Anakin's coup started out as an alliance of shared interests in Episode 2, and gradually formed into a proper movement by Episode 3. Maybe change stuff like the Separatists/Trade Federation/etc., really were just people who wanted to leave the old Republic, and characters like Dooku or Grievous, while remaining antagonists, were so because they were true believers in the Separatist cause, rather than being part of some grand conspiracy.

I just feel like Anakin becoming Vader could have been handled better.

Kylo didn't become irredeemable when he killed Han Solo. He became irredeemable when he slaughtered a village full of innocent people way in the beginning of the film. Even Vader didn't have any non-military casualties in the OT since Tarkin gave the firing orders for the Death Star.

The idea that someone can just straight up have about 30 people killed for no reason then come around and suggest he may be a big softie inside is ridiculous.

In the old EU it used to be that the original plans for the Death Star were designed by Tarkins friend Raith Sienar way back during the TPM era, but it didn't contain a superlaser and was designed along very different lines aside from just being a planet sized space station. From there it got developed by different groups and tested until it became the version we see in ANH, with a scale prototype being assembled as well. Sienar himself went on to design the TIE fighter and interdictor cruiser.

Raith Sienar, and his friendship with Tarkin, are still canon. His company still produces all of the TIE fighters all the way into sequel trilogy era and he still designs larger ships as well, including Tarkins own capital ship.

It stands to reason that Sienar was still involved at the same point. Geonosis had superlaser technology on a smaller scale, but that was the only part that wasn't a part of Sienar's original plan. Since Geonosis was still controlled by separatists during the Clone Wars and woudln't exactly be free and easy with their plans otherwise.

He doesn't insist on it, Filoni actually brought Maul back in Rebels TO kill him. He said that the title "Twilight of the Apprentice" was even originally about Maul, and that Vader was going to fight him, not Ahsoka.

But Filoni said it ended up being too fanservic-y, and that having Ahsoka meet Vader was becoming increasingly important for the story, and both of the characters.

So by proxy, Maul got to survive his Rebels episode, and THAT is why he is now alive as a recurring character.

Basically, nobody expected or even wanted Maul to be alive this long. It's just every time the creators plan to kill him (Lucas, Filoni) they end up changing their mind.

But with that knowledge in mind, you can bet your ass Maul isn't going to survive for much longer. I give him to the end of this season. His luck is running out.

I hope he decided not to have Maul fight Vader at all. The two have no history (even citing that Maul killed Qui-Gon is a stretch) and the fight would be nothing but fanservice. The other justification I keep seeing is that it's proper for Vader to kill all of Sidious's previous apprentices but he already did that once and that's kind of enough. Killing Dooku let him take his place- killing Maul does nothing because Vader's already taken the place Maul got kicked out of.

Yeah me and a friend found her tumblr, and we saw her ranting about how she fucking HATES her father and wishes he would die.... Because he refused to accept her as "genderfluid". I'm not going to deny that. Had the misfortune of interacting with a group of them for a while, and one was headmates-tier. You're probably not a storyteller, then. It's quite obvious that Maul still has a tidbit of story left to tell before his end. We'll be seeing him at least one more time this Season with Nightsister DAHK MAJICKS. I assume he'll carry over into Season 4 where he finally gives up the ghost. He has pretty much no resources, contacts and such left. He's scraping the bottom of his barrel. He's tried to earn his due - just as the fanbase asked - but the galaxy won't let him. He doesn't have too long.. Let his story play out. That's literally all Filoni and Witwer are asking of you.

So why why are all photos in Rebels, like Ezra and his family's portraits, Sabine's photo in the imperial database, and the Syndulla family portrait look like something ripped off deviantart, the former two especially has this animu-esque style. I think it's the fact they wear pants and boots as opposed to the full armor set. They have the helmet, torso, arms, shins and then pants, kama and boots. The earth tones balance out the color scheme and prevent color saturation, and it actually looks like they could function along unsure terrain like tided shores.

Hovertank pilots also look boss as fuck. It's funny that the only design I feel overdoes it or just doesn't fit are the Death Troopers.

TIE fighters finally having shields and hyperdrives (yes it's important to me)
The OT heroes actually having messed up lives. I know that's not popular and people think it ruined their characters, but it felt realistic. They may have won a great victory 30 years ago but time and life marched on and they didn't just live happily ever after. Han and Leia splitting up made sense to me, as did Luke failing to restart the Jedi Order.

I understand people hating the fact that Luke just abandoned his friends and the galaxy though. That does seem very un-Luke, but I'm sure they'll expand on why it was necessary.

Like maybe Snoke is too much for Luke to handle so he's gone off to find the knowledge he needs to beat him.

Because the method of tuning or calibrating the crystal is different. The Gathering method allows the Force to tune the crystal to you on a spiritual level, resulting in a color that suits you. The Dark Side method involves bending the crystal to your will, will of the Force be damned. That results in a red saber.

But we know from the Ahsoka novel that a tuning ritual can be performed on a crystal that has already been set by one, changing it's color.

Why does nobody get that the dark side in Star Wars would basically turn Mother Teresa into Hitler? It's a terribly corrupting influence that comes close to demon possession as a concept, rather than just being high on power or some shit.

Kylo Ren is actually interesting, in that he really does seem to struggle with being an asshole, because 'the light'/his conscience seems to still be telling him shit is wrong.

Ultimately, killing Han didn't work. It didn't do what he and Snoke were hoping it would. The guy is due for redemption and a long term role in the franchise as the Zuko.
