>>86632375I met the co-founder of Titan Books/Forbidden Planet in Orbital Comics, he had a little shop-inside-a-shop selling records and original art, was talking to him for a coupla hours and he showed me loads of Bisley, Sienkiewicz and Dave McKean art. The Sink stuff were sketches for a record company Gorillaz-like project where they wanted to turn the qt.1.3 Asian-looking girl from the film The Descent into a singing cartoon character. Never happened. He also showed me some BEAUTIFUL Dave McKean James Bond sample pages for a pitch to the Fleming estate to take Bond back to his roots--driving a Rolls Royce, no gadgets etc etc...he said (Mike Lake, the founder of Titan/FP) said it'd been approved but this was like a year before Quantum of Solace and nothing since so it's probably being abandoned. The Biz sketches were just some gay fairy shit. Had loadsa comics gossip, too. Best bit being that Trina Robbins' daughter to Kim Deitch was actually Jim Morrissons! The guy's first concert was Jefferson Airplane supported by (!) The Doors at the Roundhouse, he knew his shit, I actually thanked him for all the years of great comics and he got a little emotional, actually. Really nice old hippy dude. Some of the 2000ad pages from the classic era he had were fucking beautiful. Unfortunately he doesn't have the shop there any more but I email him fairly often, he took to me for some reason (and even liked my minicomic, which was a real ego boost--he offered constructive criticism, too). Read about the whole Titan/Forbidden Planet partnership split. Shit is acrimonious as fuck and Mike Lake REALLY got the shitty end of the stick, poor cunt, but none of my Brit cartoonist Normiebook
friends have got a bad word to sat about him. Solid old hippie dude who just happened to have co-founded (well, Titan was his idea, FP was his partners) one of the most influential publishers ever. Those old Franco-Belgium size thin Dredd volumes were so classy with some amazing, BIG name artists.
