Of course even if the next album ends up not having a big hit again (though they had as much time as they wanted to work on this next album so it's possible they found another one) they still have millions of fans so eh, as long as it's good I don't think they need to stay relevant in that pop realm.
I hope we get a bit more focus on the 2D animation (the artform, not the character), I know Jamie was tired of drawing the Gorillaz at that point and that's why we got way more focus on CGI and live action in the videos.
>>86486480That was the word around fansites at the time, you can tell with how stripped down the production is compared to the first two records. Those all had a ton of guest musicians and layers of organic instrumentation, many Plastic Beach songs are basically just synths and a drum machine, Damon solo performances. They had a set-in-stone release date given to them and they were working on it until very close to that date, odds are if they had more time it would've been more polished. The record has a cool, unique atmosphere as is though
