I imagine it depends entirely on how many genetic defects you end up with in your gene pool; there is that Italian mountain village that's been inbreeding for 800 years or so and all that's happened to them is they've ended up immune to the ill effects of cholesterol.
Also, if you're just willing to kill off (or neuter) anyone who gets born with a defect, you can shrink that number even more.
