>>85857902The Dark Knight is most acclaimed superhero movie in history, and I think third highest grossing after both Avengers.
DC was dark'n'edgy for entire last decade and further, pal. Remember that thing called Identity Crisis? Remember Flashpoint? Remember Arkham games? Remember Injustice franchise? Remember how surreally grimdark first season of Arrow was?
Problem was the fact that DCEU is edgy but not realistic. It tries treating silly bullshit like glowing green rocks as serious, when it can't be serious. Nolan treated all characters like real people, rebooting everything from the basics (The Dark Knight is basically reimagining of first issue where Joker appears) and shyed away from supernatural, trying to make everything as grounded as possible. It was Batman by way of Blade Runner - Nolan said so himself.
If you wanted to make Nolan's style Superman, here's how it could look:

In fact, I think original version of Suicide Squad before reshoots/being butchered in the cutting room into Hot Topic bait by marketing dudes was supposed to be exactly that - why do you think they got Ayer, if not to make it a serious crime movie? I mean, in original footage Joker was supposed to be abusive prick towards Harley, but it was clumsily cut from the movie to appeal to stupid tweens who ship Joker and Harley.
I think Director's Cut of Suicide Squad might be an actually good movie.
