You can "choose" what kind of class you'd like to participate in the course of Math, English(Literature), Science, etc. But you're going to be in a "general" sense, you're going to be picked into anything that goes in that field, not something point for point, that is, Trigonometry or Calculus. College/Universities are a little bit better when it comes to choosing exactly what you want, but as I said before about colleges to universities, being in college is like being in US high school, you can choose a field, not a exact course and just that. You still have to learn other crap that isn't of your interest just so you can graduate. Universities usually come in just one major curriculum of your choice, but at a cost. A REALLY big one.
This is why colleges have become "recommended" and not mandatory because with Universities, you HAVE to be basically rich to go there AND stay there to graduate from it, and colleges are cheaper, but you're stuck doing other crap you don't like while you try to learn the thing you actually want to learn. And sometimes what you want isn't even there in colleges, art for example, the reason why I couldn't continue college after I graduated high school. It's complicated, but basically put; the richer you are, the likelier you will learn exactly what you want with Universities.
