>>85171128It's one thing to make a movie or write a book or whatever and not have everyone in the world fawn all over it like it's a gift from God's left testicle. It's another thing to have people well-versed in the language of creativity - people who know about things like story structure and characterization and cinematography - tear your shit apart for failing to show even competency in any one area, let alone several.
We look to critics for their general opinions because they're paid to watch movies and write about them for a living. We may not always agree with those critics - and we shouldn't! - but when enough critics say "this film is dogshit", it might behoove us to listen.
It might also help to stop treating certain things - characters, tropes, settings, creators, whatever - as sacred cows who can do no wrong. I like Marvel Studios films, but even I can admit their flaws (formulaic structuring, samey third-act "superbrawls", a heavy reliance on the "cinematic universe" bullshit starting in Phase Two) while still liking them. Your favorite shit is not flawless; it's time you came to terms with that.
