I have three.

A tattoo similar to one of Spider Jerusalems (not the spider on the head, I'm not that bold). A Green Lantern logo. And Clover from Blue Monday.

I remember talking to my friend who is tatted all over about Mignola and found some of the Wolves of St August stuff in BW.

Honestly I think most Mignola translates pretty well into black and white, it especially helps if you look at the original art.

I've tried to steer away from straight up hellboy picture because I think that good art of a non-specific object is more timeless, but most of the vertical art (I don't want tattoos anywhere else but my arms, so wider stuff doesn't really work out) is very character-centric.

having said that, I can't stop thinking about pic related b&w with a deep red hellboy

I've only got a Prophet Empire Eye tat so far. No regrets. It's a big influence on me as a comics artist, and I also own original art from most of the Prophet dudes too.

Also it's often interpreted as something else entirely, which is the advantage of getting symbols over straight up portraits or more literal images

As long as it isn't something too large or "in your face". I see nothing wrong with getting a tattoo from comics, cartoons, or video games.

I've always thought about getting something similar to the picture included as I'm a die-hard Moon Knight fan.

Yeah, I only included the picture as an example. I'm not a fan of how large the tattoo is or the over-usage of black.

I would get the eyes and moon on my back or somewhere that isn't normally visible.

Have the forethought to plan out how it would fit into a sleeve or a larger collage, even if you're just doing one bit at a time. That comes across so much better later on.

Funny thing, this really only started after tumblr became a thing and 4chan decided that the best course of action was to become a reactionary ultra-hyper-mega-neocon hivemind with a 50s fetish.
