I stopped watching season 2 after the Concord Dawn episode. After seeing the season 3 trailer, I realize I may have missed some stuff that elevates the show out of the "good guys always win" cliche. Will Rebels see a similar shift as Clone Wars did in its content and tone?

Different factors entirely. Judge planets by your size do you? It is a factor of mass and core composition. A dense enough object coupled with the ability to generate a strong enough electromagnetic field could maintain an atmosphere, sure.

There's other factors as well. The intensity of solar winds produced by the local star, for instance. Also Starkiller base is mobile so it likely has it's own shielding of various sorts, not just the defensive barrier against incoming attacks. It's been modified substantially, obviously.

That was the point. That was always the point. Star Wars isn't hard sci-fi. It's barely soft sci-fi. It is, however, straight up fantasy with sci-fi elements in that it has pew pew laser, space ships, and robots by any other name.

That is something I actually always hated. I wish Anakin actually cared about his lightsaber and held onto it for all those years. This way, Obi-wan taking the saber and saying that he know Anakin would have wanted Luke to have it would have more meaning.

Of course that isn't to say they'll do that with Thrawn. We don't know anything about his past or future. Hell, we didn't even know for sure he was showing up until last weekend.

They could incorporate parts of his EU backstory, hell I'm sure they will (especially in the Zahn novel being written). They can do whatever they want with the characters.

Curiously so far (I have NOT read Wendig's two acts of rape against the English language) the only Imperial we know has a lasting effect on the First Order is Hux's dad. Obviously Thrawn's post-OT role, if any, will need a substantial redesign.

I think in the Anakin and Obi-Wan comic he lost that one permanently, but I can't recall 100%. I know it was chucked out the airship when he was kidnapped, at least. I can't recall if Obi-Wan somehow found it (via the Force or whatever)

Yes, they're obviously going more into her past as a Mandalorian but they have said they were doing this for a while. All we know is that Sabine is going to be basically the leading lady of the season, considering the only Ghost crew that appear on the season 3 poster are her and Ezra.

As for Ahsoka, you can assume the explosion caused more damage to him than she did, and that he would have a somewhat annoying time with her lightsaber form considering his cybernetics and needing to have such quick and ridiculous dexterous movements.

HAD Inquisitors, anyway.

After that Vader shows up at the Temple on Lothal to claim it for the Emperor, and then later deals with shit on Malachor. Took an exploding Sith temple to the face just to slow him down.

It was. Rewatch the episode. He was just hunting for the rebel space squadron rather than a tiny group of saboteurs, but then he discovered Ahsoka's presence through the Force and that distracted him long enough that he failed to kill them all.

Vader always did tighten his focus so much he lost sight of the bigger picture. Cue Han screaming YAHOO as he shoots up Vader's wingmen.

If you paid attention to the episode, while Vader made an effort to track the Rebels to their base he states at the end that his goal of securing Lothal was achieved and that the damage inflicted on them will send them running. Next we see he has dispatched Fifth Brother. Seventh Sister merely attaches herself to the mission.

I.. can't help but disagree. If she were related to a Mandalore, then why would she come from a House and not a Clan? You would think a descendant of a Mandalore would warrant them being born from a Clan. But she was born to House Wren, who owes fealty to Clan Vizsla.

Though that's not to say she can't ascend to the position. I would've always liked to think that the position of Mandalore wasn't hereditary, but based on strength and merit. You had to win the position, not inherit it. And I can kinda see it happening. It would seem in season 3 that she earns Rau's respect. Which is a good sign given that he's head of the Protectors, who's job is to be the bodyguards of an acting Mandalore.

I don't think Ahsoka was ever a general, either. She was a Commander, basically holding the rank Cody had in Obi-Wan's group of Clone Soldiers. She merely outranked the clones by virtue of being a member of the Jedi Order, but for the early seasons Rex, a captain, often had more influence because she was still very much learning her place. Experience trumps everything.

Was she a general in the bit Dave talked about at the end of the Clone Wars? He just said Anakin had a portion of the 501st placed under her command and they had their armor repainted as a tribute to her. She still only commanded a mere portion of a full Clone Army.

He does freak out after he first lops off Mace's arm, but quickly manages to compartmentalize his actions and justify them. Sidious knows this and plays it up to the fullest.

I'm not sure it's ever determined if Vader learned the truth up to the moment he saves Luke in ROTJ. He certainly still hates the Jedi and believes they were corrupt and downright wrong about the Force in Lords of the Sith. If he did ever learn the truth by that point he was long past carrying since he was fully committed to his dark path.

Anakin cannot let go of his attachments and is afraid of loss, so betrayal is something he takes personal offense to. He wants to protect those he cares about, and his personal conflicts often clash with the Jedi philosophy because of this.

Yes, that's actually character flaw that everyone points out to him all the time in TCW. Ahsoka, Obi-Wan, Yoda, and even Plo-Koon at one point tell him some sort of variance on that.

Of course once he's melted, then stuck in a samurai gimp suit, and then is told his waifu died at his own hands, well, he's committed. He has literally no one left but the Emperor. He just has no reason to seek any other answers but what the Emperor spoon feeds him, and really I don't think psychologically he can afford to. The only time he questions the Emperor, like in the Vader comics, or some bits of LotS when he's aware he's being tested and really almost toyed with by Sheev, it's a power struggle. Or at least a power dynamic between the two.

I don't think Vader ever really questioned himself, even allowed himself to have doubts about what he'd done, until Cloud City when he reveals the truth to his son and Luke is just flat out horrified. When his own kid would rather throw himself down a pit, risking his own death, rather than join his dad that seemed to really fuck Vader up. Then by ROTJ you can really see his crisis of faith building up.

When Padme and Obi-Wan couldn't get through to him, the two people closest to him it was clear he was beyond all reason. Ben's worst bit is not exactly in the movie but the script makes it clear. When Han Solo tells him that Snoke is merely using him for his power and will ultimately destroy him the script points out that Ben knows this. Yet he just accepts it.

Vader would never have accepted being used like that. The Emperor was still his boss, could still try to arrange his death, but very carefully never set things up so they were personally drawn into conflict against each other. When Vader, in the comics, knows shit is going down he does make his own secret plays against the Emperor's own machinations. They are playing a proxy struggle against each other. Testing each other's boundaries and will. If Vader believed the Emperor wanted him truly dead and wasn't just testing him to see if he'd fail, then I think Vader would go straight for the old man's heart.

I know the thread yesterday was arguing whether Vader was some percentage of Sheev's power but I think it's telling that he never brought himself into direct conflict with his apprentice (that we're aware of). It's like with his fight with Yoda. He actually did try to run. Was that admitting that Yoda was more powerful? No. But I think he was afraid. He was worried because he knew there was a chance that Yoda could actually prevail. That almost did happen. If the explosion at the end of their Force duel went the other way and Yoda hadn't fallen the fight wouldn't have just ended.

I think no matter what the Emperor is respectful enough to be justifiably cautious about coming to blows against Vader. After all, they're the only two Sith left.

It's ... deceptive. It's hard to know what the dimensions of the ring are without the planet or anything else for scale. We just see a broken ring and the A-Wing zooming in.

Whatever the hell it is based on the amount of debris a planetoid certainly got the shit kicked out of it and that, apparently, took part of the ring with it.

Frankly it's hard to say because I'd argue that a planet with a ring around it blowing up should have totally fucked up the ring, but then we have Fort Anaxes somehow surviving.

Guess we'll find out. At the vey least according to Dave, Maul was aware of it during the Clone Wars which would be a very small timeframe for the place to turn into that set, since Dave said they made it for TCWs but repurposed it for Rebels.

Actually, I think that the base is the asteroid base seen in Son of Dathomir #3.

From a production angle, both Son of Dathomir and the set were adapted from unfinished TCW episodes, and aesthetically it fits with the hangers seen here >>84579813 and matches the broken ring shape of the asteroid seen in the shot proceeding >>84579786

Also, given that Maul would have already used the location as a base, it would make sense that he would both know of its location and return there.

Also let's not forget that they used the prison model from the beginning of the Son of Dathomir #1 for that episode in Rebels when they attempt to save Luminara. There's no doubt that this is the same base they had in Son of Dathomir #3. After all Dave did say before that nothing gets wasted or thrown away when discussing the unfinished TCW episodes.

I believe you're 100% correct. A set created for the Son of Dathomir TCW arc was already repurposed for Rebels once before - the Stygeon Prison was used as the location where the Ghost crew try to rescue Luminara from.

It seems they have a lot of re-usable assets from that arc.

While Bail probably told Leia about Obi-Wan and where he was hiding at some point, why would she randomly ask him for help then of all times?

If, however, someone happened to meet up with him, or see him briefly in action and remind her about it, she'd have him more firmly in mind when in a crisis.

I doubt Kanan or Ezra will meet him, for fairly obvious reasons, but I imagine Maul will see that the corruption via friend endangerment plan we saw in the trailer worked, or nearly worked, and try it again should the crew get separated. Only next time, he chases them to some ass backward planet.

Hah, nope. You realize the entire point of why they brought back Darth Maul to begin with was for him to die by Vader, right? They literally want to see the two fight. But they felt they needed a story built up for it. So it totally makes more sense for ToTA to end with Vader and Ahsoka than Vader and Maul. Maul will probably get his by end of season 3.

First of all, no, the leading Sith grants the title of Darth. He doesn't consider himself to be a Darth and neither does Sheev, so he's not a Darth.

The Sith isn't a fucking way of life here, it's an organization. I can choose to follow the Jedi ways but that doesn't make me a Jedi. He will always have what he grew up with within him but he's not a fucking Sith.

Star Wars is the one franchise that doesn't abandon or forget things. Most concept art ends up getting reused in one way or another and none of the people that have been working for Lucasfilm (Dave, Pablo, etc.) are fanboys for one specific era over another. While EA and some of the directors that they hire care too much about the OT and synergy, It's hard to believe that Lucasfilm would ever stop caring about the prequel era outright. Hell, Disney Infinity Star Wars was introduced with a CW era battlepack.

Actual fighting lasted 4 years. To be fair the Clone Wars had a buildup of 20 years, so I don't have a problem with that. Nor do I really think it sinks the canon or anything, the Clone Wars seemed a lot more like WWII IMO (Galactic Civil War was a lot more one-sided to be WWII).

The fallout to The Clone Wars has lasted for 30+ years now. The events of TFA come around and the Republic STILL doesn't have all of its territory back.

My quibble with the Prequel Trilogy was that I never felt like the grinding effects of the Clone Wars was properly communicated to the viewer. I really liked Plinkett's idea that as time went by, you'd see buildings on Coruscant in various states of disrepair and commerce drying up due to so much money being spent on the stagnating war effort.

Well at the end of the day, Darth Maul is a dark side Force User, though perhaps a bit more "grey" than he was during the Clone Wars.

But the problem with the Dark Side is that 9/10 times, unless you're "for teh lulz" evil like Sheev was, the Dark Side will twist your thoughts and desires until you end up becoming the very thing you hated and you end up all alone, having either killed or driven off all of your allies. The Dark Side lies to you, and all beings that come back to the "light" have a moment where they're like "what have I done??".

And he never, ever, nor did the showrunners ever say (find the interview, I'll wait) that Maul wants to be specifically a Sith again.

That's like saying Snoke and Ren are Sith because they apparently follow the Rule of Two as well.

Thrawn wasn't in the first two episodes shown but the place exploded when he popped up. Essentially, it was always Lucas's idea that Boba and Jango were NOT Mandalorians. They were Bounty Hunters who wanted to use the highest quality gear, and they believed Mandalorian stuff was the best of the best.

Well, Jango anyways. According to Filoni, Boba wears Mandalorian armor just because his dad did. Kinda' sweet.

The simple fact of the matter is George shouldn't have given Jango and Boba Mandalorian armor and expected it to be extremely obvious that they weren't actually Mandalorians. It makes about as much sense as saying that Yularen was really a Rebel even though in the movie you saw him wear an Imperial uniform.

Every single protagonist gets killed off in a brutal way. The Empire should be portrayed as a truly horrible dictatorship with mass executions, awful torture scenes and constant (literal) backstabbing between officers. No goofy stormtroopers. No comic relief, just pure darkness.
And some rebel protagonists should be portrayed as idealistic terrorists who would do anything to deafeat the cruel Empire, even if that means killing defenseless people.

Well, considering they act like bounty hunters when we see them, it IS obvious. Boba was created to be wearing the armor of a once-feared supercommando culture/group. Never once is the word "mandalorian" uttered in the films.

You're gonna be left wanting on that if test screening rumors of R1 are anything to go by. Vader's role is very minimum and serves more or less serves as the noose around Krennic's neck, and as the bar for his immediate ideal next step in his ambition.

Krennic doesn't want to bring him in due to liking his trachea being in three dimensions, but events force his hand.
We don't even see the order, we just see him look resigned, go to a comm network and brace himself.
We then get a few rebels scenes making their final getaway, it seems like they're homefree, then suddenly Vader from nowhere that wipes out the entire group, but is too late to stop one of them sending the plans away.

I think it's just a matter of people speculating if they're going to keep blowing up Clone Wars locations. Totally explains why Dice doesn't use them, they're all gone! Bitter jokes aside, I can honestly see it going either way. At least Anaxes did have a giant bomb on the planet, even if they stopped the countdown. Apparently someone restarted it, or at least that's the assumption I remember.

I can see them doing this to certain locations as evidence of both the longer lasting impacts of the war and it's sheer devastation. Some planets the fighting got to just didn't survive. Anaxes along would probably be a huge blow to the early Empire because apparently it was the Republic's naval base/shipyard. Makes me wonder if maybe a Jedi didn't take it out by reactivating the bomb. Shit, wouldn't that be horrible? A Jedi taking out an entire planet. But not from revenge but just in the hopes of slowing the Empire. A sacrifice of a world to save other worlds. Is that possible for a Jedi? I guess, since we've seen Jedi go dark or just do stupid shit they think is right but which are actually horrible. Up to the entire Council approving Operation Just Trust Me with Quinlan Vos.

Well, as far as we know, that may not necessarily be true. We don't know much 4-LOM, IG-88 and Zuckuss in modern canon, particularly when it comes to their prowess in their jobs. They very well could be small timers like Greedo for all we know. And we don't know if Bane's still alive or dead. IF they were hiring only the best, I'd think he'd be in that lineup.

Really, I think they just got hold of whoever they could in short notice. 'Cause if I was going for the best of what the Bounty Hunting community has to potentially offer, I wouldn't hire Boba and would instead go for Cad Bane and Black Krrsantan.

I prefer the dathomirian zabrak for that reason. Koth and...shit I cannot remember the other guy off the top of my head, I wasn't a fan of their horns, but Maul's people have that "crown of thorns" motif going on. You couldn't be more wrong. Lucas wanted Maul back because he felt like he was a wasted character. TCW was a chance to remedy this. Also Maul was introduced into Rebels because his arc was unresolved with TCWs cancellation.

It's surely not true. Granted Ford was on the casting sheets for VIII but that was supposed to be the usual cover for his death that absolutely nobody saw coming, right?

But then there is the fact that his fee was just astronomical, and they justified it over Mark and Carrie's as the fact that this was his only appearance in the sequels he got his in a lump sum while the rest of them will get their payout as they appear later on.

Having them run into Kenobi, and having Obi-Wan giving a speech akin to Rygel's to Durka would be perfect.
In TPM, Maul turned up and ruined everything.
Maul running into Obi-Wan and having him ruin everything back is the Book End.

Yeah I need to reread it. I remember the gist of the story but can't recall the specifics of the ending beyond Obi-Wan called in backup, effectively ending the fight. I can't recall if Anakin had a lightsaber at the end, I just remember him showing up with his new teen buddies riding mechs that Anakin put together in no time at all.

I choose to imagine she was sublimating romantic feelings she couldn't rationally come to grips with due to her monastic upbringing there or something to explain why she chose to frame a friend rather than some random nobody. Otherwise it basically becomes pointless cruelty on her part.
