>>84363532legit atheism is not concerned with disproving that the asgardians or mephisto exist or that they have some manner of influence -- the answer in that regard is objectively clear.
the question is, is thor a "god?" to an atheist in marvel, no. he's an asgardian. they have certain qualities, their presence has had influence, but they're not spiritually divine.
mephisto is one of the many contenders for the lord of the realm of hell, not a divine being.
shuma-gorath is an incalculably powerful extradimensional, mystical, malevolent creature -- but not a god.
the list goes on. for an aetheist in comics, why should i believe that this thing calling itself a god is actually one when I have experience with other so-called gods and have seen them be fallible, limited, and otherwise known quantities?
it's worth noting that the question of a legit higher power is still canonically up in the air as far as marvel and DC are concerned. marvel has the one-above-all that doesn't apparently get involved in anything beyond meeting the Fantastic 4 one time. DC possibly has The Voice/The Presence, but that exists alongside also the various pantheons such as the Olympians, etc...why should I believe they're divine if the Flash could probably beat them up on a good day?
