Can't be done. Unaltered or not, he's still a clone. You can't clone a clone and not have/expect defects. It's like xeroxing something that was xeroxed. Keep doing it and it's going to be more fucked up. Best clones/copies are always of the original source. Clones from Boba are more or less going to turn out in varying degrees of 99.

The closest thing there is that Depa Billaba was set to appear in the background of an episode, but that's it.

I'd like to see something similar to the Jodo Kast story, where Boba crawls out but finds that in his absence some asshole has started pretending to be him. He sets out to find this guy, but he also has to come to terms with the fact that his time in the Sarlacc has left him with considerable muscle and even nerve damage from which he'll never fully recover, but he's set on making sure that his (and by extension his father's) legacy remains in his hands. He sets out for what may be his last hunt, to find this imposter and settle the score.

He and the imposter have a Sergio Leone-style duel at the end- the imposter is killed, though he also fatally wounds Boba. He dies with the satisfaction that he did so under his own terms, having protected the Fett legacy, and with the satisfaction of knowing that whoever becomes the new "best bounty hunter" will live without knowing whether he would've stacked up against Boba, never having the opportunity to directly challenge him (sort of like how Cad Bane never had the satisfaction of seeing whether he could beat Jango in a straight fight).

Also featuring Dengar and Bossk as supporting characters.

I like this idea because one of the things that bothered me about Boba returning from the Sarlacc in the EU was that it never really made an impact on him. There's stories about him in the Sarlacc, stories about him getting out and having to recover... but after that, he just goes back to normal and the ordeal had barely any physical or psychological effect on him despite having been there for weeks or months. He may as well have just been locked in a closet for a few days for all the impact it had on him. He comes back and he's right back to being the same old Boba Fett.

That's what made Maul's return work. At the beginning it was dumb, he just comes back and goes "yes, REVEENENNNNGGNENNGNEGNE on KENOHHHHBEEEE" and that's boring.

Then season five hits and his arc is less about revenge on Obi-Wan and more about trying to carve out a place for himself after having his life goal and promised position taken from him. At this point, his being defeated by Obi-Wan has a greater impact beyond just "you beat me and cut me in half, I have robot legs now and want revenge", it completely derailed his life and he can't just pick up where he left off because his master moved on and replaced him and now sees him as a threat.

This is also why Maul returning in Rebels doesn't work- he didn't "die" again so this isn't a resurrection cheat, but at the same time it's now been 15 years since the Clone Wars and Maul still has the same story, the same goals, and the same methods. Nothing changed. It's just "welp, here's Maul again!" just like what happened with Boba in legends and it's boring.

Life Debt spoilers:

Overall this review isn't bad since it doesn't paint Aftermath in a pure positive light, and it even brings up some of the comics and books that already came out to help some points along.

She had the added problem of the clones turning against her people, though. She was the Jedi in charge of training the clones and seeing them go off to battle and what not. That probably had a big psychological effect on her to the point where she might not have wanted to try and fight off the clones just to get to Anakin.

Could have been executed better. WAS executed better in TCW. Toning down the accent and pratfalls for the sake of pratfalls would have made him far more bearable in TPM. I actually quite like the scene of him fucking around during the droid battle for some reason.
That said I don't particularly ride the hate wagon, he's eyerolling at worst and we wouldn't have the greatest star wars comic of all time without him.

I loved the lightsaber fight. Like, you can see that Kylo is more experienced than Finn and Rey, but he's also handicapped due to his injury. You can see how Rey uses her lightsaber like a staff and you can see Finn swinging it around like a baseball bat. I liked how realistic the choreography was.

I just wish that Kylo had won because it would have given Rey a motivation to improve her skills in the next movie.

Possibly the worst fight for me (don't kill me). It's not because of how Rey beat Ren. Believe me, how they managed to make Ren injured so he wouldn't overpower Rey was a good idea.

For one they looked like they were struggling to hold the lightsaber as if they were heavy as fuck. They were just swinging them about like kids who haven't held a stick before. The fight was just extremely slow for some reason. It also showed how flawed how Ren's saber was because he couldn't really swing it about and had to be extra careful when handling it. The choreography wasn't that great either. I would expected Rey to show off her skills or something and not just running backwards.

The setting was also shit. I don't know why but you can't easily tell it was filmed in a small warehouse and turns out they did just that. It just felt cramped or something. If you have watched any fight/action scene set in a forest from other films you would understand where I'm coming from. The way the camera was following Ren when he was following Rey felt like I was watching a tv budget fight scene. The concept art looked better.

I don't expect the fight to be as anywhere as near epic as this scene but they could've done a better job with it. The earthquake splitting them apart was a nice touch though.

In retrospect, it was okay. My only issues were with the characters, not the fight itself. Then again, I'm a little biased towards the lightsaber duels from the OT. (I was never really big on the flashy acrobatics from the prequel fights.)

Their duel was so clunky. I don't think JJ understood/understands how lightsabers work.
It looked like they were swinging some really heavy hammers.

Agreed. In practice the crossguard blades are the stupidest things. Had they been metal, fine, but now they're out of plasma so one touch and you've burnt yourself.

Circumstances were different in the OT though. Most of Kenobi and Vader's fight was offscreen. And both times Luke fought Vader was because he was novice as hell. And Vader was toying with Luke on Bespin and on the second Death Star he was holding back 'cause he was conflicted and wasn't thinking straight. PT or OT, lightsabers work the exact same and are light as fuck.

Yes, I've noticed that they looked a bit heavy but that's probably because of what they used back then. But even so Luke handled his lightsaber easily like it was nothing, even got a hit on Vader a bunch of times. I'm pretty convinced they only used those heavy lightsabers in the TFA just for this set photo because you know how everyone went crazy over "practical effects" were going to be used in the film. Even though they were going to CGI them anyway.

Ahsoka is Filoni's mouthpiece. I mean she's literally the only Jedi who seems to understand what's wrongs with the Jedi Order when even Obi Wan doesn't question them really.
Then she becomes a badass "grey Jedi" who technically isn't a "real" Jedi. If you'd ask any Star Wars fan what kind of Jedi they would like to be, they would most likely answer with "a grey Jedi who isn't part of the Order".

Rey was created as a female power fantasy for young women.

Is that really a bad thing though? Before, all female fans had were Leia and Padme, neither of whom were Jedi. A few months ago, I was in a restaurant and saw a little girl, no older than 7, wearing a Rey t-shirt. It kinda warmed my heart a little bit even if I don't think Rey is the best character.

Rey should just face some hard obstacles and fail. It would also be great for her to get a real goal apart from finding her family because no matter if Luke is her or father or not, she has already found a new family that cares about her in Luke, Leia, Finn and Poe.

Not really, because there wouldn't be enough time to show Kylo's fall AND Rey's story in the same trilogy. So they will instead show us how he turned by giving Rey another vision or soemthing like that. Then Kylo and Rey will meet and he will tell her what happened to him in order to sway her to the dark side. I think you can do that without wasting time by just having Rey represent the audience.

I think you're giving them too much credit. I doubt they put that much thought into it and expected that because you knew Vader fell to the dark side, even if you didn't watch how he did it, that you'd accept that Kylo did too. It doesn't provide any particular reason for it, beyond "I want to be like my grandfather/Snoke told me to be evil" which is kind of flimsy, but it's basically just what we learned about Vader in the OT: Vader was seduced by the power of the dark side and by the Emperor. The prequels give us more nuance and clarify that it wasn't as clear-cut as "I want power" but going by the lens of the OT, that's all we learn. Similarly, TFA just presents Kylo as someone who wants to be powerful like his grandfather and we learn no other reason. It doesn't expect us to even really question why he went from a good Jedi student to a dark side powermonger, it just wants us to accept it. If Kylo were a basic villain this would be fine, but there's elements of tragedy there that aren't really touched on. He's presented as tragic and struggles with his decision but we never know why he made these decisions to begin with. The movie wants to have a tragic character but not actually flesh him out, and thinks by treating him like the new Vader that's good enough.

It's sort of like what they did with Hosnian Prime, where the destruction is treated with great tragic dressing than Alderaan (shots of the victims watching it about to happen, sad music, etc) but we're never given any reason to care about them. They're random nobodies on a planet that won't even be named until later in the movie, but the movie wants it to be tragic. They want the audience to feel sympathy without having earned it.

It isn't. The gene sequence breaks down. It's fine though if you're cloning from an original host source because the genetic degeneration isn't very drastic. But if you clone from a clone who will, no matter what, always be 99%, at best, you're gonna constantly be getting less of a perfect result. Making a copy from a copy will always be more distorted than the last. That's just how genetics work.

It doesn't. But it's closer than say what you would get through regular procreation and having some really dominant genes. Though with procreation, you get to have the other side/parent's genetics, no matter how dominant or recessive they'd be, to fill in the gaps/errors of the other parent.

So yeah. Any clone made from Boba will always be more flawed on the genetic level than any clone of Jango.

Now if say; Boba had a natural born kid, or a kid with a genetic doner from some woman. And then had that kid cloned a million times, that'd be fine because that kid wouldn't be subject to clone degeneration in their genetic makeup no matter how small it'd be.

Yeah, TCW already confirmed that they can't just keep cloning the clones. They didn't get into the specifics, but they did point out that they need to use whatever genetic material they got from Jango and it was starting to run thin, hence Lama Su telling Shaak Ti that they needed to find a new clone donor.

Actually it will always be less than the original with Clone Troopers because they modified the Clone Troopers genetics. Only Boba was direct duplication from Jango.

Now that said, it's not like Kamino should need to copy from a clone. After all we know they have the Fett genome coded and in their database from the episode where Fives was investigating embryos for signs of Tup's "anomaly". And since we know they can perform genetic manipulation and even manufacture their own designer genes they don't NEED a living tissue sample from Jango to clone him. They can manufacture a new DNA strand from scratch just from their records. Because if they produce an all new gene that doesn't exist in nature they surely can build one based on Fett's genetic blueprints in their computers. Moreover even if a clone does have slight genetic aberrations since the Kaminoans have the database records for all of their clones genomic data they can just correct it manually by swapping out the aberrant genes for new ones to re-conform to the one in their records.

Is Kaminoan cloning perfect? Obviously not. It's certainly better than what we're capable of doing, and they're said to be the among the best in the field. Though how can you say it's perfect when we've never seen anyone else do it in the SW universe? Saying it's perfect I think is unfair given that we've nothing else to measure their prowess to apart from real world counterparts.

Even if we consider the idea that they were talking about needing to accept even inferior members of Jango's batch because they couldn't crate new clones, that's silly because even if they got a new donor it would still be ten years before even accelerated aging would get them combat ready. I seriously doubt they were expecting the Clone Wars to last so long those baby clones would have to be sent to any front lines against droids. Even the three years they fought nearly beggared the galaxy.

They outright said their more recently produced batches were more problematic because the Kaminoans had to keep drawing from their last sample from Jango sparsely in order to be able to keep making more. To keep making more (efficiently), they needed to collect regular samples from him. Like what >>84356967 mentioned.

That's a huge assumption. The Kaminoans are business people. Why assume they'd terminate obviously flawed clones when they can just be repurposed. No sense in wasting materials when they can always use another janitor. They also seem to study aberrant clones. Sometimes the mutations prove beneficial. Did 99's? Not physically but you never know.

I'd actually hazard that the fact that 99 was in such a physical state instead of having him surgically corrected proves that they wish to see how even failed clones perform. It's also entirely possible that one of 99s purposes was as a way to scare clone cadets that if they "fail" they'll end up like him.

Either they didn't mean what they seemed to mean or they were misspeaking.

No matter how you try to deny it Domino Squad's members were born years before Jango died so their ill-performance owes absolutely nothing to Jango's genes being "stretched".

They weren't and were never implied to be. Padme is very impressed with Anakin's compliments. Did people really not see Padme holding back from him? In all seriousness yeah, I don't think George would let him do the Schrodinger's Ahsoka thing. I don't think he would've let them drag Maul's story out like this, either. It was his idea to bring him back in the first place but it seemed like he had a particular story with a particular ending in mind- the fact that they never got a chance to commit to that ending due to the cancellation of TCW is the reason they could justify having him still be alive.

It syncs up interestingly. Unless you tweaked it some (I can't tell since I haven't seen TFA since it was in theaters). But overall, I don't think it fits. The fight between Luke and Vader in RoTJ had so much weight behind it and Rey and Kylo's doesn't even come close. The RoTJ duel felt like it was the emotional culmination of everything that happened in the previous five movies. And the Sith theme happening after Kylo gets hit also doesn't fit. Especially when the chasm starts to open. It just doesn't fit.

Something new and exotic. As much as I loved worlds like Naboo and Coruscant, I think we should go for something we haven't seen before. At the very least a planet that's appeared in the books but not in a visual sense if we HAVE to go with something familiar. I disagree. When I hear Sheev's theme while the defeated Kylo is on screen, I somehow have to imagine that Sheev is part of the reason why all of this happened. Like, the soundtrack reminds of how Sheev (and Snoke) completely ruined the Skywalker legacy.

I didn't like Into Darkness at all, and I've come to realize that it's for some of the same reasons I didn't like TFA (Into Darkness was basically a two hour love letter to Wrath of Khan and tried to mirror a lot of the emotional moments in it without understanding why they worked in WoK), but either way the new Star Trek movies sort of miss the point of the franchise. They're action movies with a sci-fi coating. That in itself doesn't necessarily make them bad movies, but it does make them bad Star Trek movies.

Of course there were other executives to assist him, like with literally every other big budget film in existence. People in charge of certain aspects of the film. I don't even know how he got the job. He's been a vocal critic of the prequels and Lucas, but he was cool taking Lucas's money to be in a prequel-era production. Then come TFA promotion time he's right back to hating on Lucas.

If he had people who questioned him creatively, he wouldn't have put in such crap like Jar Jar or the overly-bloated ending (which Rick McCallum didn't even TRY to point out that the writing would lead to too many things taking place at once).

Both sides are kinda right, actually. Lucas was the one who created Star Wars and he had a lot more creative influence on TESB than people think. Most of the boner was pre-release, when they really hyped up the "wow, REAL effects!" because so many people have bought into the idea that the prequels were all CGI.

It's especially funny when you watch some of the behind the scenes stuff and Abrams is realizing that the practical BB-8 model can't actually do a lot of the shit he needs it do, so he ends up being CGI or CG-assisted for a significant amount of the movie.

Even then, the practical effects that they did have weren't spectacular, particularly the creatures, which is a shame.

Rey's theme stood out to me. Kylo's too, but only because of how simple it is- I'd barely even call it a theme.

The Resistance theme too, but a large part of the reason I even remember it is because when I heard it I thought "hey, that sounds reeeeally familiar" and it turns out it's the music playing while the rebels are preparing their defenses on Hoth, only turned into a full theme. It's a bit of a cheat.

Four fucking action scenes. It becomes very distracting and cluttered to switch between "space battle", "Droid Army vs. Gungan Army", "Lightsaber battle", and "capturing Nute Gunray". Two of those should have been combined. The first two Star Wars movies had very little clutter, in terms of ending scenes. They didn't constantly jump between four different perspectives. SW had a near perfect ending: they attack the Death Star, and it is entirely focused on that and the rebels below dealing with it. ESB has only 2 action scenes: lightsaber duel, and the other heroes fleeing Cloud City. Nothing overly convoluted or cringey, like having Annie go "YAHOO!" after watching Qui-gon get impaled.

Because it's the weakest score of the franchise. And it's so because Disney/JJ didn't let Williams work to his fullest. They made him score the movie AS it was still being filmed, as opposed to what Lucas did in giving Williams fully edited cuts of the movies to score. Also, they didn't let him use the LSO and forced him to use some smaller local L.A. orchestra instead. So yeah. Given with what he had to work with, it was good. But nowhere near as good if they had let him do his job properly.

No. No. I'm saying most movies don't do that, as it leaves the audience confused and exhausted. Only the very best and most creative directors get to break that mold successfully. Most don't try, though. ROTJ was ALSO too cluttered. They could have easily combined the assault on the Death Star with the shield generator attack. Lucas himself thought the ending of TPM was too cluttered, and didn't have enough room to breath and let the audience process emotions (if they felt any).

Was Anakin being serious? To an extent but was he full on dictator? Absolutely not. He and many others were frustrated with the bureaucratic mess of the Republic. They wanted things to change. The scene was an attempt to show the audience a little bit of Vader but it wasn't all him. Watch the fucking movie first before you talk shit. You're taking scenes out of complete context.

No one said that. What was said is Anakin is the chosen one meant to bring balance to the Force. Anakin was taught as a child he was going to have access to things no one ever dreamed of. It's also implied he's afraid of failing. The anakin and obi comics have Anakin tempted to leave the order because of his own instability.

The ships looked great. Organic stuff, not so much. Even Maz and Snoke looked just okay. They would've been amazing in 2010, but we've already seen CG characters that look much more convincing.

I was going to post a webm of Live-Action Greivous, but I can't find it, so have this instead.

Honestly a lot of the CGI in the Prequels was just fine. At least, in the 2011 versions which I last watched, they were perfectly fine and outright impressive at times.

Sure there's going to be some dated shots. But there is dated effects in the OT, and sadly TFA too already.

I honestly don't care. I have never been pulled out of the movie by any effect in any of the 7 movies.

Are you really suggesting the puppets and animtronics in the Thing look good in 2016? It's a great movie let's not pretend the dogs don't look like obvious animatronic.

As for Jurassic Park, yes, it's dated. Most of the CGI is stiff and non fluid. Up close they lack real details. The Raptors suffer from the same special effects dating as the Brachosaur. What saves the T-Rex is the night scenes. You can directly compare the Raptors from JW and JP and see the real advances in CGI. The JW are incredibly most realistic and fluid.

As for Lord of the Rings, let's not kid ourselves, the Wargs, eagles, orcs ents and even Gollum look dated. Impressive 10 years ago but now not so much. compare avatar to gollum's CGI.

Their effects are still impressive after all these years and still hold up actually. The CGI here was among the best when they were released just like LotR. It's still better than TFA's mixture of old and new effects which looked out of place.

Then again, I don't know why people try to compare effects when none of them are realistic to begin and it doesn't stop you from watching cartoons.

Yeah the Thing is animatronic and has that look but the issue is whether it's effective and holds up, I think it does.
Besides no special effect looks truly looks real even at the time of release, cg ages the worst of all because of the constant advances in computers, even new stuff looks off and weightless.
The issue is not how real it looks but if it's effective.
This one here is one of the better effects I don't even think modern cg could do it better.
