I really dug the fight scenes. The Shiro PTSD moments in episode nine were great too, and I do like the chemistry the cast has. Wasn't a fan of some of the humor early on, but it got better.

Maybe adding some more info on the villains would have improved it, but I know there's only so much you can do in a season with 13 episodes.

It could have been improved if it stretched out the beginning more into an extra episode so it wouldn't be too bloated

Otherwise, a weekly schedule would be great since episode 4 is when things get good

They are actually encouraged to serialize the plots instead of it being mandated they need clip shows and bullshit. Also and that is key. You view the show on your own schedule. Not hoping they don't start fucking about and changing things.

Yeah weekly formats dont work for netflix shows. They've been trying it with the mortal instruments series but its backfired horribly and is considered to be the weakest show they've ever produced. I give them the benefit of the doubt tho since someone else is leading the development of it and is controlling how it is being released and netflix is just acting as the hosting ground.

That being said i sometimes dislike how dreamworks shows end on that episode 13 cliffhanger when we know there are another 13 episodes coming in roughly 5-6 months time. This is realistically only arc 0.5 where as the remaining 13 episodes will make it into a full arc 1 for the voltron story.

I am really digging this show though, it has to be one of the best cartoons pumped out in a really long time. My main concern was that it would pander towards 9 year olds but clearly this show is going to be dark, Zarkon and Haggar are fine examples of how twisted the Galra empire is and i can't wait for more!

Also pidge is best girl

Well part of that I think is to keep the budgets level with what they want to produce. And Netflix has ideals to put a good deal of money into their animation.

Cliffhangers while may not be the cup of tea for everyone remind me a lot of the old show serials that places like Sci-fi channel used to run way back in the day.

I think the issue is cliffhangers are so over used now days that i just dont like them in a netflix series knowing how they go. Granted i get the mid season finales and what not and thats how they work but in general it just drives me up the wall knowing ill be waiting 6 months just to go "well no shit they're all okay". It just seems like such a messy story technique to pull off. If you have a cliff hanger, maybe make it so its not so... abrupt, actually thats what this one was, an abrupt/really badly timed cliffhanger.

Probably why it reminds me a lot of the suits they are using in Voltron. Moreover Ash's armor from 1 and 2 which was mostly white.

Also some of the weapons and ships have have a Mass Effect feel.

I liked the weekly format since it gives space for discussion while also building the fanbase

The first season rushed so hard in getting them together in the first place that aside from Pidge the individual characters could use the breathing room to be fleshed out more. Because without Voltron getting rebooted, Zarkon can't get back the Black lion, and therefore Voltron, for his own uses. He couldn't get to the lions before, remember?

Which raises the question... how and why did everything kick off? This HAD to all be a Galra plot right, otherwise it is too neat.

Shiro manages to escape, but didn't really remember how. He escapes right into the arm of the vague protagonist guy who just happens to know where the Blue Lion is. The Blue Lion leads them back to the castle which gets all the lions unlocked. Time skip a week, and the Lions are jumping into Zarkon's hands, if it wasn't for last second betrayal.

Shiro was looking for Voltron. The transmissions from the Galra were about Voltron. Seems he knew Voltron was still around, but we learn later that the area the Castle was located in was on the fringe of Galra territory. The Sol System also hadn't seen them until recently.

It is, however, possible that Zarkan learned Voltron was still around when the Red Lion was discovered, but we don't know when that was.

How come every person that likes this show and is all about the homolust shipping gets so buttblasted when people criticize the severe under use of Voltron in a show titled Voltron? This is the same flaw every single adaptation of Voltron had.

I understand not wanting to do the monster of the week formula but that doesn't mean show 2 minutes of Voltron in a 1 hour and 8 minute pilot and go more than half the show without ever using Voltron.

Other Monster of the week series like Kamen Rider have already solved the problem of doing a show like this without being formulaic and keeping things fresh. Why didn't Voltron do the same instead give us the same old never use Voltron ever stuff?

As long as they don't start forming Blazing Sword every single fight as their finishing move and you are left wondering why they don't just open with it.

Frankly I like how much time they spend as individual pilots and running around as lions. Helps them build character and test themselves more than when they're all cooped up together letting Voltron do everything. Given the season ends when them being split up it's clear the showrunners like it too.

My guess is there was a rift between the mech designer and character designer (in mecha anime these are almost always two different people)

Because of Super Sentai the Red is always the leader but the mech designer made black form the head. They probably just rolled with it because of how early Shiro gets killed off.

Since this 'verse has the concept of the Lions being spiritually bonded to their pilots it's unlikely we'll have a three lions rotating situation. At most one of the pilots (either Shiro or Lance) will die and trade in for an unbonded replacement. They might get around it by doing the Voltron Force thing where other lions can take over for the head though. That way Keith can still be the leader while being the Red Lion's pilot.

ALL versions of Voltron have that concept dude. Bonds can break seeing as how the boys aren't one of the first Voltron pilots this time around.

Its highly implied that Shiro will die and Lance will take over Red. They wouldn't have left Blue Lion's description blank and Red Lion's description match Lance's personality

The only way they wont do the switch off is if they bring in Voltron variations from the other shows where you had Red Lion form the head, Blue Lion ford the head, etc.

More accurately, the first 3 episodes make it look like it has promise, but the rest is kind of terrible. Also, the ending just isn't worth the investment. The princess character is one of the worst princess characters I've ever seen in anime, and she has a lot of stiff competition.

'Oppa' doesn't literally translate into daddy. It's actually closer to 'older brother' iirc, but 'daddy' also isn't an inaccurate translation in specific contexts. It's an affectionate term young girls and women call a guy they're close to (or are actually related to).
