I think that anon might have been asking sardonically. Trunks is an example of trying to fix the future gone wrong.
He comes back with sketchy information, repeatedly fails his objective and inadvertently assists Cell in being completed repeatedly.
Now one might say if he didn't intervene things would be worse but well really if Goku died they could just wish him back with the Namekian dragon balls. Though it's doubtful Piccolo would even die to begin with since the first batch of Androids they encounter weren't even that tough. So they kill them, Bulma helps them find the lab, they deal with the stasis Androids and Cell. One could argue they'd never find Cell because reasons but really from what we see occur in the present day whatever happened in the future to make them all fuck up is driven more by plot contrivance than any logical explanation.
Despite being atrociously poorly informed by Trunks the group managed to get plenty done on their own just fine. With a tip yes, but a useless one in the end since Trunks didn't even know about Cell so he didn't help with that. Either way analyzing and destroying 18 and 17 would be enough. Cell would have got up to Super Piccolo level absorbing people but Goku and the others would have killed him clean.
