I do think they're still affecting us. Momentum sets us along predetermined paths. These paths can be broken, especially with the rapid acceleration of machine applications.
In short, I think the recent landscape is a fuck of a lot more important, to the point that bringing up those old battles is almost always a laughable attempt to distract from something awful.
In a decade, tops, the Cold War will be far, far more important to the ongoing events of the world than WW2, despite all the History Channel bullshit. Because everyone involved in WW2 will be dead and gone (true already), most of their children will be dead and gone (largely true), and most of their grandchildren will be senile (almost fucking there.)
