Basically, the core rulebook for the new D&D edition has a paragraph in the prelude to the character building section that says the world of D&D is fantasy and you can play as gay people if you want, then mentions that one of the elven gods has had the ability to change their gender since first edition. This is, depending on who you ask, a breakthrough for representation in the rpg world or a sign that radical feminists have infiltrated the highest structure of our hobby.
Given that most rpg authors tend to be left leaning it's mostly par for the course, though. Since /tg/ games are a hobby that kind of force you to sit around and talk with people the situation with rpgs and identity politics is hard to compare to comic books and video games, mostly because we already had our big "no girls allowed" kerfuffle back in the 90s.
Game books have been using "she" as a go-to gender neutral pronoun in player books since World of Darkness across most mainstream playbooks, and our debate about boobplate was more or less resolved around the turn of the millennium. There's some bleedover from the ongoing video game stuff right now, but it's nowhere near as vitriolic as the stuff that cropped up on the old BBSes when World of Darkness was allegedly going to ruin the hobby with hordes of women.
>>82896182The X-card is a lot more egregious, though. I get the feeling its design is intended for convention play where there's very little time for communication before the game starts, because in a home game you really should just tell the GM what themes you're uncomfortable with before the game starts instead of carrying around a card to spring in case you get offended. Especially since most groups are accommodating if you just say you don't want some theme in a game.
