Bojack is unhappy not because life is shit and there's nothing redeeming in it, but because of he pathologically desires only what is beyond his reach. He doesn't count his blessings, he laments his unfulfilled wants. He is perpetually dissatisfied because he refuses to accept reality when it deviates from his fantasies. He wants to eat his cake and have it too, and every time he sees a chunk missing in that cake (that is to day his idealized life) after he takes a bite (brings his dreams into reality), he throws the whole thing into the air.
Bojack isn't depressed because life is so bad. He's depressed because he refuses to come to terms with reality. Because he is UNWILLING to be satisfied with what he has and prefers instead to dwell on what he can't.
