Lack of reaction to a joke usually falls into one of two categories: unfunny or not understood. Sometimes a joke is too esoteric for the intended audience to understand, but sometimes a lack of reaction is simply surprise that the jokester would actually make that joke.
Luan's comic persona assumes that if she powers through with the standard "C'mon, this is funny!" shtick, she can coerce (or dragoon) her audience into liking her material. It's a common coping mechanism for comics when the material really doesn't warrant an honest laugh but they're desperate for acceptance.
Sometimes it's the exceptional delivery of mediocre material that makes the difference. Hopefully Luan's material improves before her outlook starts to flounder.
