A rich white guy having a black love interest from the streets may have been controversial in the 70's, but it's still not without its doubters now. I mean one of the most famous WMBF couples on TV is Olivia and Fitz in scandal, it's hot but it's unhealthy and mapulative at times. One of the criticisms of their relationship that you see echoed in tropes of rich white guys with black love interests is he'll be with her in private, but in public the white wife comes first. (I guess it's the ugly echos of slave master fucking the black girl behind closed doors, but never loving on her in public, because it was seem as a social/political/ moral (they didn't even see black people as being human) transgression.)
The difference is Danny would proudly and is not afraid to hold Misty's hand and parade her, like "Yes, this is my girl" in public. Danny would proudly put a ring on her finger, as she's his one and only, and he did at the end of IIF. Fuck what his social equals think. Plus, a full black natural girl being doted on by a lead white male love interest is rare as all fuck.
Basically, what I'm saying is when Danisty happens Finn Jones' black female fanbase will times itself by 1000.
