Unlocked Aura doesn't seem entirely natural, so it's possible that it would be harmful to the baby if the flames are hot or if her Semblance supercharges her muscles.
Medical facilities probably have equipment for safely depleting the patients' Aura levels for cases like these.

Random redheads can unlock your Aura easily, but that doesn't mean that corporealizing your soul comes without side effects.

Unlocked Aura (and, by proxy, Semblances) have to be negative in some situations, since many of them are passive. Just like the scenario where Yang is pregnant and could potentially crush the baby with Aura-powered Kegel muscles. Evolution didn't prepare humans to give birth with superpowers.

The point of the unlocking scene was purely for our benefit as the audience, don't take it as canon that all Auras need to be unlocked when everything iterated later on contradicts that.

Also, using a single case with Jaune as exemplary of every living thing on the planet is fucking stupid. If you want to apply logic to it, it makes much more sense that Jaune's Aura was intentionally sealed at some point and not just locked by default.

Yang's semblance is described like a fighting game meter.

One punch isn't gonna fill a meter unless it's uber max damage.

It's why Neo beat her hard. She mainly did dodges, quick jabs which did more damage as counters, and won with a ringout or something.

A baby will be kicking and twisting and clawing for over 8 hours. This is different from random kicks as this time it would be doiing it the whoole time all while shehas cramps.

That meter is gonna fill.

Maybe they could do cesarian but who knows if that's gonna activate it as well. Probably not.

Every time we seen Yang use her semblance, it's a concious decision. Which makes sense, seeing as how semblances are described as active applications of aura.

For example, it didn't go off after she got punted through the roof and then hit the ground at what would realistically be terminal velocity in the food fight. Why would it? It's just a game with her friends. Compared to all those times when she's avenging her hair or defending her friends by getting angry. Which seems to imply she didn't use her semblance while fighting Neo at all, for whatever reason.

It's not that Yang going fire makes her stronger, that's just when it reaches it's peak. She still gains strength from taking shots.

Passive semblance makes no sense. The healing and damage mitigating effects of aura are described as passive semblances are described as the opposite.

And we never really see her punching harder than usual without the fire effect going off beforehand. Heck. If the fire is her semblance is hitting its peak, why do the fire effects show up for scratch damage like losing some hair? Yang didn't take nearly enough damage fighting Junior or the Ursas to get a full meter.

That part about Semblances is so utterly retarded that I'm thinking that the transcriber had wax in his ears or M&K had been sniffing glue.
It makes zero sense to call all active Aura manifestations Semblances. There are two sets of Aura powers which are strictly different: the personal, unique superpower everyone gets and the generic Aura abilities like the shield projection and exploding punch Weiss and Fox use, respectively.
On top of that I can't think of a single instance in the series where your personal superpower wasn't referred to as "Semblance." Pyrrha explicitly says that "my Semblance is polarity" which makes no sense if Semblance is just a general term.
The fact that the same line also contradicts Miles' mention of passive Semblances only makes that more likely.

The first paragraph only mentions that the force field part is passive and doesn't imply anything about Semblances, and the second paragraph doesn't imply anything about Semblances being only active. Yang could passively project her Aura into fire and super strength.

Has she ever ignited without being hit?
I'm also not entirely sure just what "passive" means. Ruby's Semblance is definitely active, nothing happens until she activates it. Yang's is reactive, meaning that nothing happens until something triggers it. The difference between the two is that Ruby's power can never, under any circumstances be triggered by anyone else than herself.
Yang, on the other hand, might be able to flare her Semblance consciously even if the bulk of its power comes from absorbing hits rather than her personal pyrokinesis.

And the logic you just presented is a good reason for everyone to have Aura. If unlocking it is as trivial as we've seen, and Remnant is so dangerous, then surely EVERYONE would have it unlocked? As a basic safety measure. I mean if you lived in Remnant, would you really turn down having an Aura?

An I'm running off the assumption that passive means you don't have to do anything to make it work. It will heal you and tank hits automatically, but if you need to want to go fast, make a glyph, leave a shadow, or convert damage to power, you hav to choose to use it and thus it is active.

No, you don't. Dust is volatile, just like gunpowder. Did you forget how Ruby and Weiss met?
You can't bend time or summon projectiles without Aura but you just need to smack a crystal to trigger its power. Large crystals are basically the simplest form of hand grenades possible.

Don't get too epistemological there. We know that unlocking one's Aura cannot be an incredibly hard process since Pyrrha managed to do it without breaking a sweat. We know that the White Fang is a huge organization with a lot of resources.

Unlocking Auras is common enough for a seemingly random student to perform the act. The poem which went with it indicates that it's a rite of sorts.
And if Jaune was truly one in a million person with a forcibly locked Aura, you'd think that Pyrrha would have asked about that. Maybe not then and there, but they were sleeping, fighting, training and eating together for a long time afterwards.

So I shouldn't put weight in the animations made specifically to explain to us how these factors of the world work, but it's okay to base everything we know about Aura on inferences from a hamfisted two minute expository scene in the middle of buttfuck volume 1?

Hell, that entire scene began with Pyrrha asking, "Why didn't you activate your Aura", which runs contrary to the entire idea of Aura being a passive protective shield that's always with you once it's "unlocked".

That is just your strict interpretation of the line. Powdered Dust is an obvious parallel to gunpowder, so it being triggered by heat, impacts and all that jazz could easily be taken as granted.
Dust reactions being entirely reliant on human presence is a significant downside which hasn't been mentioned anywhere. The Knights would be worthless against Grimm without human backup, and any and all remote machinery would have other forms of energy generation. Dust is used absolutely everywhere, so something that big would've had to come up this far.

The musketeers should have something ridiculously well synergizing.
Like, one of them can accelerate things within three feet of him relatively slowly, one can create small portals with a lot of concentration and the third one, I don't know, could change the trajectory of projectiles mid-air.
The portal guy sets up a loop around the accelerator who can apply his Semblance for as long as he wants and when the projectiles break sound barrier or so the third guy homes them into the target.

Whatever Jaune's situation is, it cannot be unheard of since Pyrrha didn't react visibly.
Aura cannot be a taboo topic to talk about since the tournament prominently displays the Aura meters.
Unlocking it cannot be needlessly hard since Pyrrha did it so easily.
And it somehow still has to be obscure enough for it to be reasonable that Jaune didn't know about it.
All of the aspects just don't mesh together flawlessly.

I'm saying there might be ways it could be forcibly sealed. Again, like that shit in Avatar with the bending. And "We've got to seal away this kid's potential so they never get into trouble" is a common enough trope that would fit Jaune.

Maybe it could, maybe it couldn't. But you can't really use "maybe" as evidence for a definite one way or another. I've offered up some possible explanations for the Jaune thing for example, but it doesn't matter because I think the entire scene isn't relevant to begin with, it's not a crux of the argument.

We don't know the specifics of how it works, only that Aura is used. Say, for example, that Aura can be imbued and trigger the Dust without direct Human interactive - In a way we know that's possible, because Atlas has already worked with removing the Aura from Human beings and putting it into other vessels.

I like both of the characters because of the chemistry they already have. On one hand, Yang and Merc are foils, but still so similar. I can't help but forsee something beyond "They fight each other while Blake fights Adam and Weiss fights Emerald." There is strong pottery to come.

I want to hold Yang's hand and watch the sunset sure. I want to grow old with her after raising a litter of Tiny Sun Dragons. But Merc would be an excellent an partner if I can't be there. Sure he has Emmy, but they're more siblings than anything. It's a fucking struggle.

for a aura to be unlocked, it must first be locked. in your canon there would be no reason for pyrrha to know how to unlock a aura because there would be no reason to learn in a world where everyone has their aura unlocked all the time.

I disagree. The scene definitely intended to make unlocking an Aura a thing. M&K (and, back then, Monty) aren't actually, literally retarded. They wouldn't introduce such a massively impactful mechanic that lightly, no matter how much flak they get for it.
Like, Pyrrha's comment about Jaune activating his Aura was just a single line. When they spend so long explaining what unlocking means and have it all end with a poem and a light show there's no way they didn't think more closely just what that particular thing implies.

That's based on the one scene in the WoR animation which sorta implies that. I wouldn't take it as an absolute claim that only the force field effect is Aura. This sort of "inner energy" is incredibly common in fiction because it explains why everyone has access to essentially magic and why they are not splattered in fights instantly.

First, that's not equivalent at all. We're literally talking about your soul here, and Aura rather than Semblances. Secondly, even with that example, a lot of people do fucking hate getting told what they can or can't do with their guns.

I mean, how does that even make sense? You'll let a fifteen year old become superhuman and use a gigantic scythe sniper rifle, send them through a few years of school before allowing them to become a freelance mercenary, but if a civilian wants to activate their own forcefield to protect themselves against those kinds of people, or criminals who don't care, or goddamn monsters, nope that's illegal?

It's been mentioned multiple times (Including by Pyrrha in the fucking scene in question) that all of a Hunter's gear is a conduit for their Aura, and it would also explain why the Grimm destroy Human structures which don't even have Humans in them.

It would fit the themes of RWBY. You leave a bit of yourself behind in everything you interact with, form relationships and bonds with, or create. In the real world that idea is metaphorical, in Remnant people would LITERALLY do it because of Aura.
