Lords employ the carrot and stick to incentivise people. They basically follow the laws of economics, politics and darwinian survival as we understand them to successfully make others do their bidding.
On the other hand, Muses are just meant to be inherently likeable. They get enthusiastic about stuff so much that others can't bear to see them suffer and end up going out of their way to help them.
This is a cool dichotomy and ultimately rests at the basis of the entire Active/Passive class divide, which Calliope introduced to the comic in dialogue. Whether this was a good more or not, it is consistent with the duality of it all. In a two-player session, or one-player session meant to grant 14 magic underlings, it makes sense to have special classes that specialise in influencing others and doing everything on the Active and Passive sides of the scale.
