As for your assertion that evolution "steers" away from hybridization, that's idiotic. Evolution happens. It's not intelligent nor does it "steer" a certain way. Mutations occur that are favored by environmental factors over time to influence that.
Do you have ANY idea how long it would take for our modern animals to evolve into Zootopian beings? Fucking EONs. hundreds of thousands of generations. In that time you think a few "like species" might hyridize, then a few more and a few more? Chromosomal values are not deleted, they are added to (DNA code only grows, it never shrinks). For this reason, it's safe to assume that any added mutational data in populations would significantly increase the length of the helix for the entire species, and in this case, for EVERY species.
Would it likely result in full interbreed capability? Perhaps not, but the numbers of chromosomes as well as those associated genotypical characterisics would become much more likely to be able to hybridize than they would be to separate.
