No, it's because the new show has a different aesthetic. They had to match the old characters to the new aesthetic.

Rebels also has a way lower budget. TCW had Lucas spending $1 million per episode because it was his baby. Rebels is running on FAR less.

Inquisitors are allowed to be other species. Force users aren't exactly common, and beggers can't be choosers. Further more they're more personally trained than militaristically trained, thus separating them from the racist government. They get a pass for being so off the books. The military is still very racist though accepting most only humans and that hasn't changed.

That being said, Disney did make them less villainous than they were in legends as their sexism has gone down considerably. There's now a larger number of female storm troopers and female higher ranking officials.

A theory I saw somewhere discussed that I liked was that since Kanan is blind there will obviously be missions where Ezra will have to go solo and Maul will be there when those times come to use his influence.

Also another good point is Maul can just say that Kanan lied to him, or say the sith way is the only way to get revenge, etc.

Because the main cast also consists of a Jedi and a Padawan. Plus, he fucked up their shit in the season premiere for season two anyways and Ahsoka is now written out of Rebels.

As for Maul, I kind of wished they would have gotten rid of him this episode or something, him just popping up all the damn time is getting tiresome. I love the guy, but shoehorning him in nearly everything is starting to become grating. Tell his story and lets move on. At this rate I'm expecting him to show up in the Sequel Trilogy somewhere.

Bane is a creation of George Lucas, Revan is not. In all likelihood, most of Revan's stuff would be brought along with him, but it's not a guarantee, and even if he was, it'd only be in Holocrons or some mention of the Star Forge. Someone's almost certainly already said it, but I loved the subtle shit they did with Maul in the finale.

Like when you meet him he's seriously hunched over and relying on his walking stick but you can see he incrementally stops using it and stands up straighter the more Ezra starts to trust him.

It'd be really easy to miss if you weren't paying that much attention but he doesn't just ditch the facade when the fighting starts, it's really gradual. He just dials it back as he needs to and as he does his colour scheme becomes more vibrant as he does.

It was a really neat way of showing how good a manipulator Maul is and just how decrepit he isn't. The same goes for his voice, by the time he's fighting Kanan and Ahsoka he basically sounds like his old self, gone is the hobbly old man with the ready voice Ezra met in the dark.

Incidently, how old is Maul? I always imagined him a little older than Obi-Wan so he could just be in his 50's or late 40's. Ages are always tricky with Star Wars but seeing as he still looks young, pretended to be old as fuck and weak but is actually still fighting fit.
Fit enough that he was confident he could take Kanan and Ahsoka at once, sure that same confidence got him tripped over, but on a different battlefield he probably would have just gotten up, reassessed his opponent and killed Kanan right then and there.

If you can't tell I'm hype as fuck that Maul is back.
I can't wait to see how he fucking dies!

If Legends material is mentioned in canon material, the only part that becomes canon is what is mentioned.

Look at Malachor, here in the finale. It's very different from how Malachor was in KOTOR 2. There's no mention of Kreia, so she's not canon. There's no mention of the mass shadow generator, so that's not canon. There's no mention of anything from the game other than the name "Malachor". Hell, the planet in the game was Malachor V, and this planet is JUST called Malachor, so they might not even be the same planet.

Legends is a pool of inspiration. Legends is entirely non-canon and will remain so. If Revan appears in canon, it is essentially a new character who only resembles Legends Revan in whatever ways the story group deems fit. That's it.

I think she's dead. I think she can and will be brought back especially for her own post-Clone Wars story, and possibly even brought back post Rebels in some fashion to appease fans, but I think realistically she's dead, especially as far as Rebels is concerned.

Malachor is a system comprised of at least 5 planets, it stands to reason they might all be very similar considering they're named I, II, III, IV, and V.

Even still if they're going with KotOR 2 being canon, then the light side ending has been confirmed canon, so Malachor V is no more than space debris.

I agree, which is why he shouldn't be some type of quick reference that puts him in the same level as something like spice mines. It's not like she was successful in bringing Anakin back, that was the main reason she did what she did, Ahsoka thought she could get her Master back from the Dark Side. She didn't bring him back to the light so as far as she's concerned, it's over for her. A part of her died that day.

Not him, but The Clone Wars, it has the moral of the Mandalorian Wars if you remember and they briefly talk about it.

As for the Jedi Civil Wars, I don't know if that's been canonized, it's only references I believe that aren't very very vague stuff Yoda talked about with the ancient Sith fighting the Jedi is I believe the Plagueis and Bane Novels, not counting all the Old Republic stuff of course.

From his now twisted point of view, Ahsoka abandoned him like all the others.

Luke was a new, untainted, son that he only just discovered. When Luke told him to fuck off too, he had to face the fact that Luke rejected him on his own terms.
Coupled with discovering he'd been given the classic Sheev treatment regarding padme and his children, that was enough to do what his mentor and apprentice couldn't.

A lot of old Legends stuff had Vader searching the galaxy to try and find Luke, because he felt that he still must be alive.

Neither Obi-Wan or Ahsoka could fully bring him back. Luke bringing him back had more meaning in the end because Vader realized that the entire reason he became Vader, Padme and the kids, wasn't completely dead, and here he sees Luke getting brutally tortured by the very man that set him down this path (granted through his own foolishness), he remembers Dooku doing the same to him on Geonosis. Basically everything just came flooding back to him in that instance and it broke him.

With Ahsoka and Obi-Wan, he was able to try and shut it out after a little bit because Vader was still fueling his desire. He has sort of a twisted look at them compared to Luke. Vader still sees Ahsoka and Obi-Wan as people who abandoned him, and Obi-Wan even worse where there is an entire monologue the movie didn't really get into where Anakin thinks Obi-Wan/Padme are having an affair with her being gone all the time and Obi-Wan starting to be more secretive due to the Council wanting him watched. Granted that last bit isn't really canon and it's only in novels and stuff.

Concerning the Inkycopter I suspect this is actually a recent upgrade after Fifth Bro told Vader, "The Jedi are growing in their power."

It makes sense that Sidious would prefer to technologically upgrade them rather than slipping them any more knowledge of the Dark Side that might help them. Because of their over-reliance on tech instead of the Force they got killed. But then being Mauled isn't exactly a black mark.

Also, remember that Vader says "It's too late for me" to Luke. That Luke doesn't know the power of the Dark Side - Vader believes that he is beyond help, that it is impossible to resist the Dark Side.

And then Luke rejects the Dark Side wholly, in the moment when he is most vulnerable to it. He tosses his lightsaber aside and accepts his fate rather than give in. "You've failed, your Highness. I'll never turn to the Dark Side. I am a Jedi, like my father before me."

Luke proved that it could be done.

He can. There really isn't much point to the mask apart from it connecting his helmet to his secondary respirator and the suit in general. And his helmet is responsible for connecting the suit to his nervous system. He's still capable of breathing the same air that anyone would.

It's always bothered me how much Anakin's style of diction after he becomes Vader.
I know Vader sees Anakin as dead, but their manner of speaking so just so radically different.
He speaks like someone of high station and education.

Am I the only person that found the Vader, Ahsoka fight really underwhelming? People on the Reddit Star Wars board are talking about how they were crying and shit during it.

Not enough build up, interaction between them, emotion, animation was still meh compared to clone wars and Rebels Ahsoka is barely even the same character as TCW Ahsoka, doesn't look or act the same, doesn't really have the same personality.

Honestly I'm absolutely sick of Maul.

And not because he's from Episode 1 and I have some hateboner for him. Instead, it's simply because he, like so many dark side users, cannot learn his fucking lesson when it comes to alliances.

I understand the Rule of Two and I certainly understand they're selfish sociopaths, but for fuck's sake at least sick with the Rebels so you can corrupt them from within.

I liked the fact for a while Maul was not being a stereotypical villainous idiot. I liked that he saved Ezra rather than just took the pyramid macguffin. I liked that he didn't try to play games with the Inquisitors and immediately attacked them. I liked the rivalry he had with Kanan over Ezra.

But all of that went away too quickly and, like usual, Maul gets shoved off the side of something like the Team Rocket villain he is.

For once I'd like another Palpatine character. The main problem with Palpy himself is we always knew he was the emperor and thus it was never really surprising when he betrayed everyone, so I'd like Rebels to have a similar character. Obviously Maul is someone you expect to betray, but it doesn't have to be Maul. It can be a new character, maybe not even related to the force at all.

It'd have been better if the episode ended with the Rebellion reluctantly accepting him and him beginning to gather a few disgruntled rebels to his side. It'd have been great if there was this lingering threat of the Rebellion facing an enemy within throughout the next season, with Ezra at the forefront of it like Anakin was with Palpy.

Maul's up shit's creek now. No point in even seeing him again. Ezra is highly unlikely to trust him, so that route of corruption is closed.

The only reason he came back was so they could set up a Maul vs. Vader fight. The story is secondary in this case, the fight scenario was the first thing they thought of. Filoni said they wanted to come up with a good story to justify it, but from what we've seen in this episode it's just nothing really new. It's just his old story stretched out even farther.

That doesn't even need Maul, though. What made Maul's TCW storyline work was that it was tailored to his unique circumstances, a Sith apprentice who lost his place. For Ezra, he barely even gets his hooks in, he just gives him some brief "power is good bro" advice which any dark sider could've given him, and now Ezra has rejected him and he's no longer necessary for Ezra's turn to the dark side. He didn't even plant the seeds, they were already there. He gave it a slight nudge and that's it.

I thought what was said in the recon about Maul having an element of sincerity now was interesting.

It really did feel that way. I believed it when he talked about being old or hating the sith. It was interesting because at first I saw strongly opposed to a Maul redemption but now I don't hate it as much.

Will be interesting to see where they go with him from here.

The reason he died in RotJ was that he was already dying because the Emperor fucked him up. Taking his mask off only sped up the process.

Doubtful. We have nothing to suggest that native Zabraks age differently from Humans. And Dathomiri Zabraks, like Darth Maul, are already half Human-ish anyway.

Seems like peoples theories on the Inquisitors powers deliberately being lower look to be a decent possibility.

Maul was a bonafide Sith Apprentice, and it showed. When he put /ss/ in that choke hold she couldn't do a damn thing about it.

He is clearly still very powerful. He should be getting up there in age at this point but maybe Zabrak age differently, plus dark side powers, etc.

They'll never let them be stronger. The whole reason they keep them weak is so that they cannot threaten the rule of two. Inquisitors are expendable. Against a Jedi Knight one on one, an inquisitor is no match. The best comparison /co/ has made is that an Inquisitor is a mine canary. Maybe with a squad of Stormtroopers an Inquisitor can capture or kill a Jedi. But if they fail or die, then it's something worth Vader's attention.

Nobody's really sure, not even Mark. There are all kinds of conflicting stories, and he was on enough painkillers during the recovery that his memory's not exactly reliable, by his own admission.

He does look noticeably different between ANH and ESB, but some of that is the process of aging from 25 when ANH was shot to 27 when ESB was shot, and some of that is from the accident. It's just not clear what's what.

And as he's gotten older over the years some of the age lines around his mouth have never looked right. All that weight in the 2000s didn't help, either. He looks much better now that he's dropped it all again. It's always kinda been a poorly kept secret that the whole point of the Wampa scene was to explain away why he looks a little fucked up in-universe.

Rebels is a cash cow, each episode costs way less for disney to make than TCW did and is more profitable.
And the storyline has quite a bit of promise assuming they do the Dark Ezra thing right

Every time they've encountered Vader they've been lucky to survive. The first time Vader let them escape and even shrugged off having a walker dropped on him. Second time Hera did a risky maneuver and managed to get Vader caught in a tractor beam, but again a maneuver which relied on Vader wanting to take them alive so those Star Destroyers weren't shooting. This time Vader destroyed Ezra's saber and later was pulling them to him. Both times they were saved by Ahsoka.

The Inquisitors have also been hounding them relentlessly and been a huge pain in the ass all season, especially when trying to find a new base.

I never got that vibe. Ahsoka was the only one who could actually stand against him, and she's out of the picture now. Apart from that, we've seen Vader effectively buttfuck the rebellion all by himself.
