>>80299567>It served the purpose of locking away on of the cipher symbols so that the zodiac couldn't work...No, that's not it. I'll copy what I said in the other thread over here:
What was the point of Mabel's bubble in the end, even? Why did Bill even put her in there?
We don't even really learn what Gideon's deal with Bill was, but we're led to believe he agreed to be "Protector of the Bubble" and guard Mabel's key.
Teeth and 8-Ball also ask Bill if he is worried about Dipper making "trouble with Mabel's bubble." Bill says he has gotten someone to protect the bubble: Gideon.
All of these things led people to believe that Mabel was somehow important, key even, to Bill's plan. But she wasn't, not at all. It never even came up. So what was the point of the bubble, even?
You can come up with an explanation, but first of all, anything can be given a post-hoc rationalization. The reason should be clear in the story itself. If there was a reason that's not clear, that is itself a problem.
Second, most post hoc rationalizations don't actually make any sense:
1. Mabel was a prize for Gideon. To get him him to...guard Mabel. Huh. Right, that circular logic makes total sense.
2. To prevent the Zodiac from working. But if Bill ever gave a shit about that, why not kill Mabel straight off, thereby actually removing the Zodiac as a threat? Or why not kill Dipper when he had the perfect opportunity?
3. To stop Mabel and Dipper from working together to stop him. Has all the same problems as number two.
In the end, it really seems like Bill put Mabel in the bubble to...allow for an episode where she and Dipper discuss fantasy vs. reality and not for any character or plot driven reason at all.
Is there something I'm missing?
