Quick update on the road-trip Starco green I started last weekend: I've kinda completed (no proofread yet) three more chapters, of 8-9 I plan on writing — I've been slacking off, sorry guys.

I figure they have a few/enough completed episodes ready for airing but (understandably) not the whole season.

154-155 days into hiatus has me desperately wanting them to air now, but another part doesn't want them to rush. But the sooner they air the more appropriate that one promo will feel. We can assume, from what we've seen from various tweets, that they're still finishing some of the later episodes of season 2. Now I'm not sure on how the timeframe of production for shows on DXD would work, if that's expected given the length of the hiatus or when they would have started producing season 2. But it's interesting to think how that could change going forward, given the space freed up from Gravity Falls finishing. What it could lead to is more emphasis on a potential season 3 for Star vs. if the early numbers are good given that the lead times seem very long if you want to avoid too large a hiatus.

Or it could mean they have some other ideas in the tank for when season 2 of this finishes. Really the most sensible thing they should be doing is marketing this show to high hell within a reasonable time frame of release, if you can garner a solid interest early on for season 2 then you've got a solid hook to get another season of a popular show going on a channel which just lost its big attraction. Really, the lack of any news yet is quite disconcerting for a March release as even if it did happen it feels like they should be starting the marketing process now.

Perhaps, if it is to air in March, they could start the marketing at the start of March, leading to the first episode late March or early April.

I liked her in so much as she fit the role of a magical Queen that's the ruling party of a barbaric medieval society of aliens. Yikes, that's a worrying thought right there. I can see their reasoning in so much that easy to pick up comedy shows seem to be the big attraction for younger viewers, TTGo being the prime example of that at present. It would be easy to say that the Disney team in charge of DXD want to tap into success like that, however isn't it a channel you have to opt into buying? Not sure how it works in Clapland as in Britbong we get it packaged with services like Sky.

Either way, from what I presently know you have to be attracted to the channel and specifically look to get a deal with it included, as opposed to just having the channel on a basic deal and using it as a 'put on and forget' channel for the kids. If that is the case then you really need something that attracts people to it's premium nature, Gravity Falls being an outstanding cartoon was this draw in; as are the Star Wars cartoons I'd imagine. But with Gravity Falls being over it feels like they'd struggle to keep interest of the customers who were attracted by that show specifically and without a more quality of story focused cartoon they stand to lose a lot of people, regardless of the push for these easy comedic shows.

Now I'm certainly not suggesting Star vs. is an adequate replacement for GF, however it is a solid show that could prop up the interim with the Star Wars shows until they figure out just what they want to do. Do they stick with the premium channel? If so they have to invest in some quality shows. Do they want to focus more on easy comedic shows? Well then they'll have to rethink their current model. Perhaps they want to be bold and try out an online service platform circa Netflix which is becoming the increasingly popular way for children to view content.

Same here, which was a nice change of pace from the usual indifference of parents in their children's adventurous antics. It bodes well for the show that they're willing to take those characters as actual characters and not easy problems for Star or Marco to combat.

Would be interesting for sure, but it's inevitably going to be depressing as all hell to think that duty will come between such great friends. Outside of them finishing the series without acknowledging it, I can't think of a work around that wouldn't involve Marco giving up life on Earth or Star just using dimensional scissors for regular visits.

Those are both rather difficult to justify, but perhaps they'd be bold and go with one of them whilst not bringing up the deeper issues with the whole thing. Really, I'm hoping for a somehow open ending that deals with Star's eventual return to Mewnie. It would allow for a lot of potential implications on how it ended to be drawn without being too open to feel unsatisfying.

STORY UPDATE

It's gonna be called Nine-Tenths of the Law and will be a sequel to Practice Makes Perfect.
Chapter 1 is well on its way and I just wanted to ask:

Do you guys want a lewd story or a PG13 story?

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy writing the lewd bits, but I see now that they're basically there for flavour. Cutting them will speed up production as they are easily the hardest parts to write.

Personally I'm fine either way, I just want to know how others feel about it.

I think they work in the right scenario, Star vs. would work as one in my mind given that it paves over the issues that'd be pretty much unassailable to Starco working, given Star's duties to Mewnie.

With a relatively open ending everyone can be happy as long as they wrap up the major story plot points. Hopefully we'll get a season 3 for this to be achieved properly.

This show has been subverting a good amount of tropes and cliches. What are the ones that you are glad they avoided?

I liked how, in Storm the Castle, even after having argued with Star, kidnapped Marco wasn't all like "Yeah well apparently Star and I are not friends anymore I don't think she's going to save me so fat chance if you wanted to exchange me for the wand". That would have been stupid, doubting a months long friendship for a little disagreement, and yet many shows do something like that.

One of the big ones for me is just how they reinforce that Star and Marco are friends by having them doing things friends would do. They hang out outside of their magical adventures all the time. Another of the big ones I like early on in the series was Star actually listening to Marco when he suggests that Princess Ponyhead was up to something. It would've been so easy to have her brush him off but Star considered it a possibility instantly.

Toffee didn't go full retard in the finale, like laughing maniacally and explaining his backstory/plans because he pretty much won. It could always happen next season, but I was just relieved they didn't blow that load too quickly.

On that note, I liked how Ludo being a fuckup had a purpose beyond just comic relief.

It's good that Marco can fight competently, and though he gets abused a lot by the slapstick of the show it's never treated like "haha he deserves it," and he seems to roll with it pretty well instead of whining or getting depressed and thus killing the comedy.

Never seems like Star deliberately uses her magic to make people's lives worse, not even for Brittney, and when her magic does mess things up the rest of the episode is usually about her fixing it.

I like how neither Star nor Marco ever lie about/ditch/insult the other to come off better or appeal to their crushes; they're genuinely good friends.

Even with its flaws (though I don't think there are TOO many), the show's done a great job so far at avoiding the clichés I really hate in cartoons.

And Star and Marco have one of the most genuine friendships I've ever seen in a cartoon, they support each other, get angry or annoyed at each other but make up by their own mutual terms in short time, even their big fight in Storm the Castle had Star ready to apologize to Marco, that would solved their fight right there if Marco didnt end kidnapped. Oh that's a cool little plot point to the whole AU, instead of Star acting as the spark of adventure for Marco in the original series she does all of that in more in your one? That's cute to think about, sometimes the greatest solution for ones problems is the input of someone independent of the issue. Though it seems like she'd have a lot of work ahead of her with all that crazyness present.

It's nice to hear that the praise for your work spurred you into content creation here, I personally think you've been the joint MVP of the hiatus along with Folly for all the fantastic work you've given us. I recently learned to appreciate the advantages of C++ over Python, and now I really want to make a mini VN game for /sveg/, but I can't. On the other hand, I now have plenty of time to myself to do some writing, so I should have something to show for it soon.

I think he grew up speaking mostly (if not only)English and is competent in Spanish, but not entirely fluent.

He can understand it due to his dad, but since he was also raised by a (presumably) non-Spanish-speaking mom and seems to only speak English at home, he might not speak it fluently or read a really complex Spanish text, etc. But he doesn't need to take Spanish classes at school either and is not impressed by Ferguson's textbook shit.

This is the kind of show that could've gone really overboard with 4th wall breaking and winks to the audience but so far hasn't at all.

Honestly I really like how it doesn't try to present itself as incredibly clever or subversive, but still has more going on than the early episodes suggest.

Fire emblem is more recomended if you like strategy games, Project x Zone is more of a fanservice game, its fun but is not really a great strategy game. and the previous game kinda dragged waaaay too long.

The problem with Medieval AUs is how contrained various parties are thematically. If your'e going to a kingdom setting then there's not to many interesting roles Marco can play. General fantasy with a medieval theme to it would likely work better as you could have a much greater variety of designs for characters.

For instance, in a Medieval setup Marco would have to forego his whole close quarters combat dealio for the more traditional sword and shield. That's a bit of a waste, so perhaps look for an alternate take that can still have a medieval theme but do it in a different way. I mean, Star would make a terrible traditional princess, but a barbarian princess? Now that'd be interesting if you explored it. Marco as well would benefit from a wider scope of potential role, given he's a close quarters fighter he could even be a race that doesn't rely on weapons. I mean, if nothing else it's something to discuss this weekend eh?

Well one of the first things theyll have to do early on in season 2 will be outlining just what the wand being cleaved actually means. They briefly touched the subject at the end of the finale. However, I would imagine them fully explaining it in the first episode of season 2.

Outside of that, we know we're getting some screen time for Janna and Tom, most anything else is guesswork. Personally I think we'll get some more episodes on Marco trying to get closer to Jackie, some form of Oscar and Tom episode too for Star's romantic escapades. Miss Heinous will also play some part, as seen by her locating spell at the end of St. O's.

It's also quite likely we'll get a back story on the monster massacre or just monster on Mewnie in general. It would also be logical to assume a Queen Butterfly focused episode, given King Butterfly got one in season 1.

Well Tom's a popular character, it makes sense for the show runner to include popular characters more often to make as to secure a high audience count for more episodes with said popular character. As such, when they learned Tom was popular it either incentivised them to include him more, or reinforced already existing plans to use him.

Also unlike other villains, he never tried to hurt Star and is likely unaware that Skeleton Mask Guy was Marco, meaning that him meeting those two again doesn't mean instant bloodbath.

Also, before the episode even aired, Daron said is VA was chosen because he sounds cool but also "vulnerable," and that she thinks he's sympathetic because he's trying not to let his anger issues be his identity. Plus he's a kid the protags' age, so it's not like he's beyond hope.

I think it's really likely he will be redeemed in some form, though probably not an arc. Hell, Buff Frog didn't really have much characterization until the finale, and even his status as Ludo's best minion wasn't obvious until Toffee appeared and took it over.

...that's a lot of words for a character I'm not even a fan of.

We got started off on the wrong foot by some asshole making a fake /sveg/ and then throughout the day so many people come in and fume that we still exist as if us being around some how affects them. As established with the little shipping picture, everyone generally does their own thing. So it would still mostly focus on the core pair of Star and Marco.(Though occasionally she'll hang out with the others.) But sense Blarco already has Jackie. Star supports her bestie with his familial drama, after he admitted to her that he'd love for them(his brothers and sister) to be tight-knit again. The more people like something the more those, whom are indifferent to it, feel animus and resentment towards it. Gumball, Frozen, Steven Universe, Homestuck, Gravity Falls, Star Vs the Forces of Evil, etc. All fall into the same cross hairs.

Granted, many of these have degenerated into incestuous messes when the generals become an obligatory mandate of the internet culture regardless whether new content or not so it's only natural that prudent moderation be for the greater good as we've seen time and time again fandoms destroy themselves.

However... this does not diminish the fact that unjustified hate and overzealous moderation have occurred even when said fandoms were acting accordingly or within a healthy sustainable capacity. Still, any fandom left unchecked becomes a problem, yet the only solution that moderation here seems to have is a slow and steady escalation of complete intolerance of the media in question. We see this with shows like Gumball where all fan art is banable under the pretense of "Furry" or Gravity falls where any fan art is banned as "Pedo".

tl;dr, If you're not arguing about comic book movies here on /co/, consider yourself on notice.

It's probably because a thread full of guys self-inserting as Marco has more fun imagining Marco hooking up with a bunch of girls than they'd have imagining Star hooking up with a bunch of guys

Also female characters have gotten more characterization in general I think. Marco can be paired up with Star, Janna, Britney, Hope, Janna, Jackie, and even Janna.

As for eligible males that Star could be paired up with, there's Marco, Tom (who everyone hates), Alfonso and Ferguson (who are dumb nerds).

Not at all, you see Marco is the only male lead and because there are a lot of interesting female characters he became the default male to ship them with.
Star gets shipped with other characters, but none of them have gotten as popular as the Marco ships, mostly because the Starco ship is considered the largest and most popular.

One of the simplest reasons is purely because we identify more with Marco, he's human and has much more human problems and short comings; without a magical wand to get him out of many of those issues. In addition to that, he's male and I'd imagine most of us here are too, again we identify with Marco over Star as a result.

Outside of that you could say there's both a lack of suitable partners for Star and the partners that are available have next to no development. Add on to that the idea that the three most suitable choices for her have solid reaons to not be shipped with her and you're left with background character ships which really only work for qts like Sabrina or Hope.

Plus, just look how much more attention the show has given to Jackie vs Oskar. There have probably been more Jackie episodes since Marco is a spaghettilord while Star is much more forward. If there were as many episodes about Star's crush on Oskar as there were about Marco's crush on Jackie, Star would have asked Oskar out, gone on a few dates with him, and dumped him by now. Marco X Jackie is an easier plotline for the writers to milk without upsetting the status quo.

Because before they can get Mewman genes to work with human genes, they had to dilute them with Dwarf genetics first.

Finding a Mewman Queen willing to sully herself with a Dwarf was...difficult.
