They were nervous at first but now it's several years later and they realized that it would get them more positive feedback than negative feedback.

That guy did kind of deserve it though, he inserted a bunch of words into the crews mouth by making it seem like that was what the official team was saying when they just wanted it to be ambiguous.
Hell, they've stuck to their guns this entire time since the relationship is still ambiguous, even if you have to squint a little harder to consider them just gal pals after Stakes.

But Bubbline is garbage so who really cares.

Bubbline may be garbage, but its pretty much canon now. Which is incredibly strange, since in the beginning the writers were fervently against it. Like I mentioned before, they even fired someone because they told fans that they were both lesbians and dated in the past.

Just going with the sways of the fans I guess. It's also possible that some of the new writers they got since then like the relationship too.

I figure at first they wanted to stay away from it since there was a bunch of drama surrounding What Was Missing and they wanted to avoid it, I mean after WWM Bubbline wasn't a thing until Sky Witch which was like 2 years later. They were erring on the side of caution but now there's not as much of a reason to and the rewards outweigh the risks.

I honestly don't feel like pulling up all the examples of Marceline and PB's faggotry in Stakes, but there can't seriously be people that still think they aren't gay...
Im not a bubbline shipper at all, but even I could see that the chemistry they had in those episodes was not that of "friends".

If you watched Stakes(which you probably haven't) you should have noticed how intimate Princess Bubblegum was with Marceline during and after she was poisoned by the vampire. You could argue that she was just taking care of her because she was her friend, but then why does she not treat Finn the same way? Not to mention that dream sequence Marceline had with PB where she walks right up to her and gives her a kiss. Like I said before, im not a bubbline shipper, but the allusions to their relationship was pretty fucking obvious.

The confirmed-but-not-really route is most advantageous for the writers. Teasing gets views but doesn't make censors too mad.

Although, I know better now than to assume there's any strategy at all going on with this show. Could be some writers ship it and others don't, and nobody tries to reconcile the positions.

you could get in trouble for depicting lgbt characters in cartoons because that kind of shit is banned overseas, so cartoon network as a whole told show creators that it wasn't allowed. if it was hinted at too heavily they'd have to go back and fix it. actual homosexual characters that aren't teased at or subtly implied (in kids cartoons) is starting to get more popular and accepted because people are realizing it's just normal relationship drama either way.

on top of that, for your specific example (and this has already been pointed out multiple times in the threat), that dude didn't work directly on the show and his blabber mouth could have gotten a lot of people in trouble. and if not in trouble, you don't want some jackass talking about your show and characters like he's the final voice of the matter because he works kind of close to the show. it was probably a situation where behind the scenes people would talk about the characterization that way .natasha alegri? if that was true how does SU exist? its implications are obvious enough that other countries are reacting, turning female characters into males and all that. AT could use a similar level of implication to confirm a romance more strongly, it's not like characters have to make out on screen.

What are the chances of AT ending this year or possibly the next?

This show's been on since what, 2010? When this came on I thought I was going to get a comfy adventure-like series. Now it's gone on too long and has fallen to the "we're shipping because we don't know where to take the story" arcs.

I used to wish that the series would last for a long time.

But Finn turning 18 will probably convince the mook in charge to wrap things up, because they're afraid to age him up.

Considering the modern seasons are much longer than the older ones for some reason, it definitely won't end this year.

AT should have ended tastefully years ago, but it makes money. Anything they do is about money first. You will see alot of discrepancies because of this.

With all the talk of AT's current quality and such, I just wanted to say:

I thought AT stayed good until very recently. I liked all of it. Season 1 and 2 are god-tier obviously. But I still loved the show all the way through Season 5. It stayed good. I thought the shipping was fine. I liked Bubbleline, I liked the Fire Princess stuff (even tho they broke up for retardedly forced reasons). The dungeon episodes the kept doing once in a while were amazing. Season 5 had an awesome finale.

It wasn't until Season 6 that the show really started to fall off for me. And I think Breezy was what made me realize it. The problem I had with Breezy is that it was too "adult." AT always had Finn getting sweet with the princesses (and sometimes the princesses with each other), but it was all played in a pretty childlike matter. Puppy love and such, it felt appropriate for the childlike adventurous tone the show always had. Then Breezy happened and it was creepy and uncomfortable. It was a bit too "adult" for adventure time: Finn is taking recent events in his life pretty harshly and he's dealing with it by having a lot of meaningless "kisses" with strangers. This all culminates in him breaking a girl's heart because he didn't give a shit about her and then it implying he lost his virginity to LSP, which he regreted because he thought they were just going.

And then the episode ends with it him growing his arm back, undoing years and years of foreshadowing in one shitty episode.

This episode is what disenchanted me with the series. Now, it isn't always awful episodes like Breezy. The current season is actually pretty good about not getting too up its own ass and having standalone eps about Finn and Jake having adventures. It still has good arcs and episodes. But... it's obvious that the show just isn't as good as it used to be. It's not as funny, whimsical or just entertaining as it was for most of its run. Probably because Ward stopped writing every episode.

Regarding SU, I believe it DOES get censored overseas, even in the UK. I think SU gets away with it more because 1) AT is way bigger than SU. SU has some foreign dubs but AT is dubbed into just about every language under the sun. So no gays in AT literally because Russia. 2) I heard that the only overt lesbians in SU, Ruby and Sapphire, are easy enough to censor. Ruby is androgynous enough to be dubbed as a male. I actually don't have source on this one tho, so if someone else can help me out that'd be great.
