>>80011771It makes me so fucking mad. A lot of the cut stuff in the film was amazing, and it looked like a way more realistic and interesting plot. And from what I can tell, it was pretty late in the game. In the demo of the opening song, the kid mentions
>All I’ve ever wanted is a Whoozit Except>for the time that I wanted a scooter.>A cellphone, a trombone, a laptop>computer A sports car, an SUV, robot>that looks like me, A broad sword, >a surfboard, a gas-powered sled,>A little pet monkey that dance on my head,And a lot of this stuff is actually in the climax against O'Hare. Which, would have made sense since originally this kid was greedy as fuck, and here he was sacrificing his stuff for the tree. And in Thneedville, things were EVERYTHING.
This could have gone hand in hand with the two-sided argument the film has in place with deforestation, progress, nature, and so forth. The book, which was alright, made the Once-ler look like a complete bad guy, but the original animation which was far better, at least justified his position with the economy, jobs, resources, and etc. To which the Lorax pondered, but didn't know how to argue those points, just that the Once-ler was doing more harm than good. Had they kept in the greed concept, it could have shown that modernization has it's place, people need resources and jobs, but they can do it without destroying everything in the path, but when the end product is just for a profit based on greed, that's not going to happen. There are even hilights of this in the film we got, such as the Once-ler deciding only to remove the tops of the trees, to which the Lorax had no problem, but then his family got greed and lazy and decided to cut down the trees again.
Instead of that though, what we got was 'NATURE RULES AND THE INDUSTRY IS BAD', when we could have used the film to acknowledge that the issue isn't black or white, but we'll have a better outcome if we're not doing things in greed.
