I mean, you don't seem to understand that just because they are in the country and are allowed to move around and are given some food and shelter doesn't mean that they have received the right to stay. And with the new years happenings and the increasing problems, there's a lot of political pressure to now just grant residency at random because people saw what will happen if those people will be allowed to stay.

Personally, I do think though that the events of late last year will lead to an end of an era in the EU. It's clear that the Schengen etc deals don't work, because it's all built on assuming that the outer borders of the area hold. And obviously they don't, at least for Greece or Italy etc.
