The best way to have the Sentry stick around - After his original mini and his return - was simply to give him a really weakened version of Superman's powers. He's an old guy whose costume seems faintly ridiculous now (the golden years are behind him) but he's happy that he's not crazy, that he finally understands what he is.
He doesn't even need to take part in any fights or anything. The Marvel Universe doesn't need another Superman analogue. Just have him be Bob, a guy who used to be Superman - But is now outstripped by the new wonders, and is happy to just watch them from the sidelines.
As an aside, I've always thought that if Alan Moore's Miracleman ever discovered the Marvel Universe, he'd think it was Paradise. (Which is why I was vaguely pissed they brought in Angela instead. Who the hell is Angela?)
