Holy shit those are some awful designs. New Pixar sequels to old movies have this very noticeable clash in design when the old characters are put next to new ones. The new characters are designed with a much more modern sensibility while the old ones are much more timeless.

We literally saw Merlin and Dory get eaten by a Whale Shark (or at least a whale)

They look way too goddamn cartoony. There was a gritty realness to all the animals in Finding Nemo, sure they were cartoony, but still fairly real.
