Hypothetical: you are an executive working at Cartoon Network around 2013. A young woman named Rebecca Sugar comes to you pitching her original series. She shows you a series bible, proposed scripts for episodes, storyboards, basically you get to see everything that happens before anyone else. However, you decide to step in and say "Rebecca, this is fine and all but let's look through this to see what works and doesn't work." You have the power in this moment to suggest any changes to her that would improve the overall product and, knowing your presence and input helps in ensuring her series is picked up, she takes you on board as a creative consultant.

Let's take a good, hard look at the entire series and see how we can improve the overall product. I think a good place to start would be establishing the world first, and then the characters. "Gem Glow" would start out with a flashback to the end of the wars and the Crystal Gems advancing to victory. But Rose Quartz would not be shown, only mentioned. The early episodes do a good job of making her into an ethos rather than a logos. So we can talk about how great a commander Rose is, how great her plans for the future are, and her plans to make peace with the humans et cetera. After showing the losing Homeworld forces discussing how they'll come back stronger then ever and Crystals enjoying the spoils of war, we can then fast-forward to Steven's life in the here and now. "Laser Light Cannon" feels very much like it should be part of that episode rather than a separate one.
