>>77576247I think of reading Silver Age comics like reading the Bible or the Odyssey or some other ancient text that's mutated everywhere. You won't find artistic coherence or character motivations that make sense, but you've got all the history of modern culture encoded into the stories.
So it doesn't really matter that Superman stories from the '50s make no sense, what matters is that they're full of crazy ideas that have become the basis for every Superman story since then.
Reading some of the early Marvel stuff, like the first Spider-Man story, is almost like reading a holy religious text that everyone has interpreted and re-interpreted through the ages.
