Mostly it would need to focus more on the psychological aspect.
Party Island is way too unfocused in it's design, instead the show should take put more emphasis on it representing the secret wishes of the protagonist, even if she wants to suppress them. Kind of like a more expansive Inside Out.
Who knows, maybe that's already planned and the pilot just doesn't show it off, if I had to judge how SU would turn out from the pilot alone I wouldn't have guessed either what would happen (though it always had that "Stuff is going on in the background" feeling that Twelve Forever is lacking).
So yeah, it should be reworked but I would still be interested in how it turns out. We simply need more shows. I don't care how good they are as long as they are just mediocre but we simply need a bigger number of shows to allow for more diverse storytelling.
