>>77175987So, what went wrong? That is am actual question, because I keep working through the angles and I csnt find why it didn't pop like the book.
Was it the adaptation? It kept most of everything, the biggest difference was the SQuID and even that was mostly cosmetic.
It was too trunacated? Films across time have told amazing stories with simialr run times, and not much wad cut out of the main story.
The character arcs?
These were the key to Watchmen but they are all intact.
"Watchmen unfilmable" This has been said, but looking at the book, it's story didn't NEED to be told comic wise anymore than say, tdkr needed a 16 panel grid(which the cartoon obviously didn't have) the closet we get is fearful symmetry, but even in the book that isn't actually experienced outside the central splash due to how books work. The actual structure and narrative of the book doesnt require it to be a comic (though the graphic design of the 9grid does, that doesn't seem to be that integral)
My best guess is a "comfy"factor, Because a book gives you total control of the progress nigh instantly, you can basically "sink into it"and Watchmen's atmospherics have that.
It's jus confusing to me how film that is a borderline copy paste job can somehow be significantly worse than what its adapting.
Compare Sin City, which was so faithful they didn't even say it was an adaptation, just acting out the book.
Why is it Watchmen is inferior, not bad just....there.
(That opening was orgasmic though)
