And yes, Bendis did introduce retcons. One of the characters got two last names because Bendis forgot about it. Reed Richards was name-dropped as having worked with Peters dad. It may have started as something, but like every Bendis book, it ended up as him doing whatever the fuck he wanted with zero regards to anything else, including whatever else he himself wrote before.
