And if you go further back, GW has a trend of shooting down anyone who makes stuff for fun.
They absolutely are holding content creators hostage... but what do you expect from a company with the money to enforce IP ownership? I would if I could, some of Alfabusa's stuff is not only cringe inducing, it probably made several authors pissed off when he made some videos so you didn't have to read black library books.
