I don't have anything against polyamory or whatever so long as it's between consenting adults, but everything about Fluorite was fucking creepy and just seemed wrong. Like it was a cult in the form of a person instead of an actual relationship. They didn't seem happy with the people they were already with, they wanted more, it was greedy, predatory. Having the main form resemble a creepy old woman just makes me think of shit like Hansel and Gretel too, where it's a trick or an illusion meant to make you lower your guard.

I agree, but what scares me the most is that nowhere else but /co/ have I seen people ever call Fluorite creepy.

I'd imagine becoming part of Fluorite would be something like a crab bucket, but much more sinister. Where "You" began and Fluorite did would become almost impossible to gage due to so many voices inside of the same head, all influencing and exchanging raw emotion with each all the time. With Ruby and Sapphire they can have their quarrels, because there's only two of them and Garnet is the some of their parts, but with something as large as Fluorite, and with how they seem to actively want more to add onto themselves, it seems like actual conflict become impossible or very, very difficult past a certain number. Like if you were separated you could disagree with them about stuff, but if you were fused with Fluorite you'd just "go with the flow".
I dunno. Fusion like with Garnet seemed like it was meant to be a celebration of individuality forming into something more, since it was a relationship metaphor. Where as Fluorite seems like a boogeyman about the dangers of succumbing to a group mentality and losing your sense of independence. Except no one in the show ever calls Fluorite out for being such a fucking creeper.

This show had some really funny accidental messaging, with my favorite over the course of seasons 1 and 2 being that Greg, despite being a washed up musician, was a better parent than three immortal space lesbians combined. The episode where Steven pretends to be in awe at passing their fake challenge room to help the CGs cope with their own inadequacies (Steven at his best before be became a bitch) was gold. Strong father/son relationship did that, Greg made Steven who he is (at least in initial seasons).

This is an increasingly large problem with cartoons as staff get cut and show runners and boarders get every single duty that would have gone to 4 people previously.
The show runner is too busy and burned out to be the story editor they need to be and the boarders get way too far into the process of making an episode before others really have time to review it

But anon, now that all the work is done digitally, naturally the board artists should have an easier time doing all the layouts, too, since they're using an accurate aspect ratio and some of the background files are there. Oh, and since the timeline in built into the program, they can import the radioplay, shouldn't take more than a few minutes. Might as well time out your drawings too, I mean, why not? It's just a couple of clicks. And since you're timing it out, why not add some extra drawings here and there to keyframe some important sequences? It'll be much easier on the outsourced studio so they don't get lost what the intention of your boards were. It also makes it easier for the showrunners to visual the final sequence when you do that! And heck, it's much easier for an artist to draw out their stories than to go by a script, right? Cause artists HATE screenwriters. They should be given that creative freedom, too! The artists would LOVE to have a hand in crafting the story!

Another example of honesty from one of the first gay media whose fan base later merged with this one is Homestuck with the dirk and Jake characters. Well, it does keep in line with how fusions tend to work in the show. The more gems there in a fusion, the more iffy it becomes. Look towards Sugilite or Alexandrite. At least Fluorite isn't obviously dangerous.

She was not breaking up, Jasper and Lapis were rejecting each other but Malachite third personality started to take over due to both being fused for too long

Just like Sugilite took over Garnet and Amethyst against their will because they were fused for way too long, fusions are a third separate being that can be hostile to it's separate parts

Man, early SU had such great art and animation, when did the later seasons start sucking so much? People wouldn't have complained so much about the off model art if the show still looked like this. I love how people always defend the off model animation by saying 'Oh, so you want the show to look as lifeless as Family Guy huh?' Actually now that I think about it the bad part of poly was sort of explored with Sugilite and Sardonyx. I think these were the only other points in the series besides Malachite where fusion was shown to be predatory and wrong, and the only point in the series where triple gem fusion was shown in a negative light.

They had an entire fucking episode about how one sided it was and how possibly abusive Lapis was in private, then it just gets totally ignored and never brought up again after Lapis comes back. I genuinely don't understand polyamory. Three of the gems in Flourite match, and look like the shape of a peridot gem.

Fusion sizes correlates to how cohesive the member gems are with their relationship. Same-gem fusions, like the Ruby team, don't expand size anywhere as much as heterogem fusions like Garnet. Garnet got more "compact" with time, her backstory version had more limb material even if she was the same height. Much of Fluorite's size, I wager, is due to gems 5 and 6. Another thing to notice is these aren't flawed gems, may indicate a preference on whom to include.

As someone from Norcal which is close enough to see but far enough away to not get involved. I can say that it comes down to a few factors. One is that because of the high profile industries we have here in tech and media there has been a shift in the last few decades where there has been a massive increase in the cost to exist.
Where I live a single studio apartment is only 2000-2300 on average and that gets worse the closer you are to centers of economic influence. This causes a lot of communal social grouping of lower class people to survive where in other places a two bedroom apartment can be payed for by 2 people here it takes 4 possibly more. Also due to our influence in tech all the online shit gets magnified here faster and larger than other places.
Combine this with a historically "accepting" culture (boomers who never gave up the hippie lifestyle and early tech guys that were mostly live and let live libertarians) compounding a reputation for this shit.
And all of this has given rise to these small groups of vulnerable people who heavily rely on each other getting effected by whatever new thing there is on the internet and spiraling out from there.

Also its not like there aren't any right leaning areas here but its like single well off counties that are a drop in the bucket and besides that the type of rightwing is more of the libertarian private property type and not the God hates Gays type.

I'm not from the US but I lived in a liberal artsy city that wants to be LA, San Fran, and Portland really really bad. You had the same problems with housing. Most affordable places were ridiculously expensive studio apartments with a 1 person capacity. AKA pods. Which I had to live in.

The place was also stuck in the 60's-70's and the were a lot of aging boomers, lots of junkies and homeless, and artists.

I hung out with the latter the most and you had the "anything goes " alternative lifestyle tumblr people you mentioned, but there were also more socially conservative (not necesarily politically) types who had families and were sick an tired of not being able to afford a decent life and instead being shoved in bad junkie neighborhoods. A lot of them fled to the country as soon as they got remote work possibilities.

The difference was this place I lived in had a 300 thousand population while LA has like 3 million people. So it's a whole different animal in terms of scale and I don't want to imagine that.

It seems like the S1 finale was the turning point for the animation desu. The story didn't really go until after S2, but it seems like the beautiful and artistic shots we got in S1 became non existent after Peridot and Jasper arrived. I don't know who they fired or replaced after the end of S1, but it was a mistake.

Back during early SU seasons, I figured fusion was a representation of many different types of love, ranging from sexual to abusive to familial to platonic and friendly. I have no clue how well this holds up in later episodes, but it made me comfortable enough distinguishing the difference between that very early Pearl & Garnet fusion scene that was sorta sexually charged and other more innocent fusions that involve Steven with someone else. There's also Jasper with Lapis, that was like a very abusive scenario. Thinking this way, Steven & his Dad's fusion would be family love, but I haven't watched that newer stuff.
