Technology can't keep improving exponentially forever. If nothing else, you are still simply going to bump into the physical limit of how small a computer can be at some point. And sure, nature did develop a neat little meat computer capable of running human consciousness - but it took it millions of years, and we're still not close to understanding it, let alone replicating its functions.
