She literally said, multiple times I might add, that it would be a better life to just be a damn farmer or a noodle vendor or an artist. That you'd find more fulfillment in a life of peace then one of the blade.
Maya wanted adventure, Incubus wanted survival, both wanted power but neither one actually wanted to live.
Now Maya is forced to live as a sword wielding hobo chasing after Incubus because she can't simply conceive of a world where she forgets about his dumb ass and just lives her goddamn life.
Incubus, well, he was fucked from the word go. All Meti could do would be to give him the means to be what he always was and always will be, a barely sentient beast scrabbling for one more day of life using whatever means he can. Maybe, maybe, if someone other than her had found him he could have found peace, but they didn't, and so he wouldn't.
And thus do we have her legacy, someone so perfect at wielding the blade she's a fucking moron, and someone so stupid that all he can do is swing a sword around and hope to an uncaring heaven that it'll keep him alive for another day.
