Arnold is a bland protagonist, his solutions are practical but not entertaining to watch. It was no surprise most of the episodes are centered around Helga. Arnold is not even in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl (lol)
Most of Arnold and his friends adventures are dull. The only one time my interest is peak was the occasional urban legend they pursue and they still sometimes dont have a good pay-off. Arnold and most his friends dont act like kids at all. I cant help but compare it to Clarence's adventures, problem solving and the way characters react and communicate with each other. Hey Arnold lack the authenticity, creativeness and fascination of being a child.
For a show that values character relationship and growth they dont show any at all. The show always stick to status quo making it hard to symphatise with the characters. Sid, Stinky and Harold are assholes even after their respective episodes had shown they changed their ways. Nadine has no personality. Eugene and Curly are one dimensional.
There are a lot of repeated episodes specially ones centered around a character. Ex. Fixing Rhonda's snobbiness, Eugene's bad luck, Helga losing her diary, Sid being a Judas
I feel like they could have written Helga better. Which comes to another problem, Phoebe and Helga have several episodes about improving their friendship but the writers dont seem to stick to it. Making Helga a bigger asshole as if its not enough she doesnt respect her peers. Writers also seem to escalate Helga's obsession and schemes to get Arnold's affection making it in my opinion very hard to justify as the show goes on. With that considered I dont think at her current development deserve Arnold. The Jungle Movie left a sour taste in my mouth because they didnt properly redeemed her. I dont hate Helga though, I like her attitude and she is fun to watch but let's face it she's a terrible person and her upbrining does not justify them.
