Friendly reminder that Atlantis had an animated series planned with a cameo with Hellboy.

The episodes that were finished were basically compiled into a sequel film.

That'd be perfect. As a kid. I'd try and listen carefully to the beginning of the movie where they talk about old adventures and previous crew members. There are so many nuggets there and they didn't go for any of them when making the series. They just made some kind of lace dog

"White man teaches stupid brown people how to use their own technology" instinctively left a bad taste in my mouth even before any of this wokeshit. That's like one of the few tropes in which they have a point and it should stop being used. I think someone would actually be lynched if this movie were made today.

I've never heard of the Hellboy angle, only the canonical Gargoyles crossover where they fight Demona in Paris with that current generation's Hunter that was Dr. Sweet's ex girlfriend.

The plot was pretty straight forward. The only things that made no sense to me was how they just knew every language despite being isolated for millennia and how they forgave the gang after a sudden change of heart.

It's explained they speak a language that's essentially a universal translator. Their empire pre-devastation was massive and seemed to be well travelled.

Also they forgave the gang because they helped retrieve the princess and their magic battery. All said, the film quality does seem to drop a bit once they reach Atlantis.

Milo theorizes that their language is the root for most if not all western languages, so they can just wing the details after they figure out the base language.

It wouldn't have worked if they talked Japanese or Chinese, for example.

Every other post in this thread is about how "they don't make 'em like they used to!" but I have to admit that after seeing Jungle Cruise the first thing I did was compare it to Atlantis and it really shows how far Disney has fallen. Atlantis wasn't a perfect movie but their only crime was enthusiasm.

Did you know that "HE'S GONNA SELL IT TO THE KAISER" line in Atlantis was a nod to a deleted plot line where Whitmore and Rourke actually were in cahoots to do just that and the volcano going off in the climax would have taken out both Whitmore's surface ship and a German U-boat that was waiting to pick the crystal up?

I loved this movie when I was kid, I got a computer game, a art book, and two Ulysses toys, one of them from a McDonalds meal. I loved that submarine so much, such a shame it blew up a few minutes after it was introduced.

I didn't, though it's obvious that they just threw ideas at the storyboard because they actually really enjoyed coming up with a good adventure story. There's hours of cut content for the film and though I don't think all of it would have added well to the film it shows a degree of care you don't see anymore.
