Not only that, Dan Ackroyd and Harold Ramis wrote the script, further cementing it in their comedic style. Save for a few scenes, Ghostbusters is not a slapstick comedy, it’s largely satirical and focused on the sarcasm. But nearly every adaptation and incarnation has gone for the slapstick with Slimer, mash mellow man, and other ghosts. Those things were standouts because they contrasted the main humor of the movie.
Then you have the other issue, which is Bill Murray came in as a replacement for John Belushi, and no one ever attempts to write a Belushi style character, which is often a failing point.
It’s a personality based movie, not a stylistic movie and seemingly everyone misses that point. Until this is realized, no reboot will ever be successful
