>>125151554>Yeah the community has gone to dogshit, it tends to happen when the franchise has been dead for a decade and most of the "normal" people have left to pursue other interests, and Lego's handling of the reboot was a travesty. But for me, that doesn't detract from still appreciating and finding enjoyment in the things about this franchise that I have always liked, and post about it every now and then.If a series has had no substantial content for more than a decade, then all that’s left is the community. If the community is dogshit, than the series might as well be.
Bionicle threads on this website are just posting the same handful of images over and over again and it’s tiring.
Nothing new is being created or gained, since there’s no decent fanworks or official contact.
Most Bionicle posting outside of AFOL circles is just “member this I had the red guy“, and very little actual discussion of the narrative or themes because the reality is they’re not very well-crafted.
It doesn’t have “deep lore“, just complicated backstory that is tonally schizophrenic and constantly contradicts itself.
Greg F taking over as the main creator was a mistake, he demolished the nuanced mysticism that drew so many to the franchise in the first place and replaced it with comic book style pulp sci-fi.
The most iconic and well remembered parts of the franchise were in the Mata Nui online game, but Templar studios’ Polynesian-mysticism inspired direction for the franchise was abandoned after 2002 and never used again.
Bionicle did one thing well which was atmosphere, but it blinded a lot of people to its other flaws, which are many.
