>>124814035>What do big Iron Man fans make of the MCU Tony?I think after the first movie, and somewhat in Avengers 1, they completely missed major aspects of his character to the point of being an entirely new one.
>Things they did wellIron Man 1 really nailed Tony Stark. RDJ managed to add his own flair, but ultimately it was Tony Stark. The smooth talking, the obsessive “mission” mentality to being Iron Man, the weight of the world on his shoulders, his ability to make something out of nothing, it all felt like Tony. I even think the “I am Iron Man” ending actually worked in a cinematic universe better than making him a bodyguard too, so really I think it was perfect.
>did wrongA lot. First off, they stripped away a massive aspect of Tony: His failures, flaws, need to make hard and morally questionable choices, and the fact that he is prone to hitting rock bottom hard with the weight of everything. Any mistake he makes is just hand waved away with no lasting effect, and the movies just continually sucked his dick. The alcoholism is simply the most prominent example, but in general Tony should feel like a flawed man trying to hold it together to save lives, which he only did in 1.
They also turned him (and all the other heroes) into comedy characters to the point where the more dramatic scenes don’t hold weight.
And don’t even get me started on how they buttfucked his rogues gallery.
>Any thoughts on RDJ too?In a lot of ways I think that he unintentionally fucked up the character for good, but I blame the execs, writers, and directors for it.
>Would you have preferred someone else?Timothy Olyphant. I think he would’ve played it far more like old school Tony with the humorous lines timed in a way that doesn’t turn Tony into a 24/7 clown.
