You know there's actually better-than-decent odds she's not a virgin even in ATLA itself, right?
Think about it. All those Earth Rumbles she went to. A little girl wandering around among a bunch of rough guys, burly types, criminals, vagabonds? What do you THINK is going to happen?
Sure, you can make the argument that she'd be able to defend herself. But there's defending and there's defending. Toph holds up well in a fight, but when it comes to OTHER types of attack, she might not fare so well.
Basically Toph's canon backstory has the potential to get rather dark, once you move away from content that has to be safe for Nickelodeon.
